Miley Cyrus Says She Was 'One Of The Only Kids On Disney' To Support Gay Friends

Many of today's big stars found their fame by becoming child actors on Disney TV shows, including Miley Cyrus.

It has been eight years since the Hannah Montana series aired its final episode, and looking back, Miley recalls being one of the few Disney kids to openly show her support for the LGBT community, long before she, herself, came out as queer.

Following Miley's appearance as a guest judge on "RuPaul's Drag Race," she was a guest on his podcast "RuPaul: What's the Tee With Michelle Visage."

While they discussed several juicy topics, we couldn't help but get excited when we heard the name Hannah Montana come up.

If you didn't watch the episode, here's what you missed:

We thought Miley's drag days were over since she told us Hannah Montana "has been murdered" during her SNL monologue back in 2013.

She debuted a new look, called herself "Barry Johnson" AKA "BJ," and winked at the camera to make sure we all understood the sexual innuendo.

It was amazing.

Miley revealed to RuPaul that she was "one of the only kids" from Disney that was openly supportive of the LGBT community.

Miley said that at the time she had a lot of gay friends, and that a lot of people had a harder time understanding that.

Miley has openly identified herself as queer, and has always supported causes that resonate with the LGBTQ community.

She started a charity called Happy Hippies Foundation in 2014 that focuses on helping "homeless youth, LGBTQ youth and other vulnerable populations."

"I was one of the only kids on Disney that would come out and say that I supported all my gay friends," she said.

"And I would write these songs— no one could say that. I was young and no one really said that. That was just always really important to me, to find what mattered to me," she added.

Just before the "Hannah Montana" series came to an end, Miley released her "Can't Be Tamed" album.

The song on the album called "My Heart Beats for Love" was dedicated in support of one of her gay friends.

She further explained the meaning of the song in an interview with Associated Press in 2010.

"I wrote it for him about how people can be judgmental, so I think love is the moral that have that I put into my songs and I think that's important, telling people not to discriminate and not to judge and to just be open to the world," she said.

Miley also has an equal sign tattoo on her finger to show her support for same-sex marriages.

She posted a since-deleted photo of her tattoo on Instagram with the caption: "All LOVE is equal."

She told RuPaul what she believed the meaning of being apart of the LGBTQ community is.

She said it's about just "being your [expletive] self."

Couldn't have said it better myself, Miley!

The conversation initially took this turn when RuPaul asked Miley what she thought of "relationship to abundance."

"It doesn't have to attach to who you love, it's about you loving yourself more than who you love outside yourself," she replied.

Miley also revealed what it was like to be from the South and have her first kiss with a girl.

"When I was kind of growing up, being from the South, my first kiss was with a girl in middle school," she explained. "And no one could understand, in Nashville, saying that, or to my parents... so I had that relationship."

In the past, Miley has made it seem like she was getting really tired of being "Hannah Montana" well into her adult years.

But she told RuPaul that now that she's older she actually loves the show, and she is proud to have spread her support for the LGBTQ community with her colleagues.

Miley isn't the only Disney kid who has come out as queer, or in support of same-sex marriage.

Demi Lovato hasn't exactly labelled her sexuality, but she has been open about her relationships with other women in the past.

Hayley Kiyoko, another member of the Disney kids team, came out as lesbian and released a single called "Girls Like Girls". (It is a bop BTW).

And Raven Symone, star of That's So Raven, has also come out as lesbian when gay marriage was legalized in the US by tweeting "I can finally get married!"

Her interview on RuPaul's podcast goes on to talk about other various topics that help us get to know Miley Cyrus a little bit better!

Plus there's a ton of hilarious RuPaul one-liners.
