The Most Notable Reactions To President Trump's National Emergency Declaration

President Trump did it.

Trump decided to go 'Nuclear' in his effort to secure funding for a southern border wall. After negotiations to fund the wall through Congress went south, Trump decided to declare a national emergency.

For more than two years now, President Trump has made constructing a border wall a top priority in his messaging.

Protecting America's southern border was a primary campaign promise. A lot has changed since the wall was proposed during the 2016 presidential campaign, though.

Rather than secure funding for the border wall from Mexico, the battle has shifted to one of funding approval from Congress. As we all know, the longest government shut down in US history was started by Trump as a way to gain leverage in this effort.

On Friday, Trump made it official. He declared a national emergency in front of press in the Rose Garden of the White House.

While controversial in terms of its constitutionality, the move could allow President Trump to secure additional funds he deems necessary for completing the construction of a southern border wall.

As you can imagine, the move drew both praise and contempt from those on the internet. The reactions were also not exactly falling along party lines.

Republican Congressman Mark Meadows came out in full support of Trump's move.

Meadows believes the move is fully legal, a preemptive response to the inevitable legal challenges the declaration will face in days and weeks to come.

Conservative commentator Charlie Kirk came out swinging at Obama, highlighting that perhaps critics of the emergency declaration look at past declarations.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell came out in support of the President's move, citing Democrat obstructionism as having everything to do with Trump's inability to secure funds for the wall.

Right wing political commentator Ann Coulter provided what could be the strongest rebuke to Trump's declaration.

In a radio interview on Friday, she said "the only national emergency is that our president is an idiot."

To some this may seem like a surprising response given that she is a conservative commentator, but Coulter has been highly critical of Trump when it comes to immigration.

She didn't stop there either. She took to Twitter to throw shade at Trump's supporters as well.

Coulter has been strictly against signing a compromise deal with Democrats that doesn't include everything needed for border security, which Trump did on Friday as well.

As you can imagine, the reactions on the left were strongly against the President's actions.

Scott Dworkin posted this tweet as news started on come out on Thursday that Trump planned to declare a national emergency.

More recently, it appears as if a different kind of criticism is emerging on Twitter. People couldn't help but notice that Trump is golfing the day after declaring a national emergency.

Pictures have emerged of the President taking some leisure time today after making an emergency declaration.

Of course, whether Trump golfing the day after is actually a big deal or not is totally up for debate. What can be said for sure is that each side of the political spectrum will find their own way to rationalize their praise or contempt for the President over this issue.
