Selena Gomez has been on and off of social media for a little while now. It was only a few weeks ago that she made a return after about four months of silence.
Now that she's finally back, she's not staying quiet.
She explained that she wanted to be present to the moment — something we all should do from time to time, to be honest.
She wished her fans a happy new year, and spoke about overcoming challenges.
It was a lengthy post about her friend, Julia Michaels. The two of them collaborated on the song "Anxiety", which just dropped.
(It's a major bop, by the way).
“This song is extremely close to my heart as I’ve experienced anxiety and know a lot of my friends do too. You’re never alone if you feel this way. The message is much needed and I really hope you guys like it!” she continued.
But as inspiring and open as the post was, it wasn't what had fans so concerned.
The comments on her photo were full of fans wondering what had happened to Selena, and why she was covered with blood.
The photo was taken after her performance at the 2017 American Music Awards, where she sang "Wolves" with Marshmellow, and simulated a car crash.
She raised a lot of questions about her state of mind during this particular performance — fans and media outlets alike questioned why she seemed so sad, and why the performance felt awkward.
Some fans thought her sad vibes were due to anxiety — something she hadn’t addressed yet back then, but did in the photo at hand
Selena had been pretty open about her illness up to that point, so fans not knowing the source of her sadness was tough for some.
And even though she's totally fine, and the photo is two years old, it's clear that she's well loved.
If you haven't listened to it yet, do it! It's probably the most relatable jam of 2019.
The duet discusses their experiences with the mental illness candidly, and without fluff.
The lyrics read, "But all my friends, they don't know what it's like, what it's like. They don't understand why I can't sleep through the night. And I thought that I could take something to fix it. Damn, I wish it, I wish it was that simple."
DEEP AF! We're glad Selena isn't really bloodied, and we're praying she heals from her anxiety. ♥
