Do people even have cable TV anymore?
It’s the era of online streaming services, and Netflix seems to be the go-to option. Instead of watching Friends on loop, or standing in line at the theatre for new releases, watch an original Netflix film, cause sometimes they’re just as good.
Although there are quite a few that are less than great, we’ve gone through the trouble of weeding out the worst of them. Here are the best original Netflix movies that are definitely worth a watch.
1. “Bird Box”.

For the last week, a blindfolded Sandra Bullock has been made a meme more times than I can count. Usually, that’s a bad sign. But I gave it a watch anyway.
It isn’t an outright horror movie, but there is definitely some scary elements to it. If you’re into apocalyptic-style movies, I highly recommend this one.
It’s only been on Netflix for two weeks, and it’s setting streaming records. People love it.
Netflix has seriously stepped its game up over the last couple of years.
2. “Been So Long”.

If you’re not into musicals, skip this one.
But if you are , you’re going to love this one. It’s bright, cheerful, romantic, whimsical, and bridges realism to idealism seamlessly.
3. “Outlaw King”.

This movie is an acceptable modern knock-off of Braveheart .
The best, and most captivating thing about this movie is the filming and editing styles. The first chunk of the movie has no cut-scenes whatsoever. Just constant, fluid filming from scene to scene, all done in one take.
4. “Okja”.

This movie will probably make you want to become a vegetarian.
It’s a tale about a young girl in Korea, who is a caretaker for her giant animal companion, Okja , and has to save it from being stolen by a big corporation.
5. “Private Life”.

This one is a romantic comedy about a couple that is going through a rough patch in their marriage, trying to get pregnant.
Great cast!
6. “The Kindergarten Teacher”.

Although this movie comes off as underwhelming and artsy at first, it unfolds to be rather creepy, and disconcerting. Especially if you’re a parent.
Some people found this movie to be weirdly unsettling.

Honestly, couldn’t have said it better myself.
This movie will leave you in a very weird mood.
7. “Set It Up”.

On the more lighthearted side of things, Set It Up hits the mark.
It’s what you might call a cutesy, feel-good movie — something you and your significant other can watch while you Netflix-and-chill.
Some of us were hoping for a part two.
To sum it up, it’s about two people that want to get their naggy bosses off their backs, so they set them up on a date.
And it was so adorable, that now we’re hoping for a part two.
8. “First They Killed My Father”.

This movie, directed by Angelina Jolie, is about a woman recounting the horrors she faced as a girl, when the Khmer Rouge invaded Cambodia in the 70’s.
It’s gripping to say the least.
9. “Cargo”.

You really can’t go wrong with a apocalyptic flick. They’re always amazing. Plus, this one is based in Australia, so naturally, it’s even more awesome.
10. “Gerald’s Game”.

This movie takes BDSM to a whole other level. When a couple tries to spice up their marriage, one accidentally winds up killing the other, and handcuffed to the headboard all night.
11. “Nineteen-Twenty-Two” (1992).

If you’re in the mood for something dark, 1992 really hits the spot. It’s about a rancher that is plotting to murder his wife, and convinces his son to partake in it.
Very creepy.
Horror movie fans are raving about this one.
But if you’re not into horror movies, it’ll probably make you want to sleep with one eye open.
12. “Apostle”.

This gothic, gory, Dracula-like, religious cult film is definitely one to add to your recently watched list.
But if you’re squeamish, avoid this one.
13. “Sierra Burgess Is a Loser”.

This one is a classic tale about a high school girl winning the heart of her crush, but with a twist of mistaken identity.
It’ll leave you feeling warm and fuzzy.
Happy tears are the best tears, amirite?
It’s the perfect girls-night flick. Throw in some PJ’s, snacks, and a bottle of wine, and you’re golden.
14. “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before”.

This one plays by all of our favorite teenage-rom-com rules, in the best way possible. Another girls-night go-to that definitely delivers.
15. “Like Father”.

If you got left at the altar, would you go on your honeymoon alone? Bring a friend, maybe?
Well, this movie is about a woman that takes her dad on the honeymoon she would have gone on with her new beau if he didn’t bail on her. It’s amazing.
16. “6 Balloons”.

6 Balloons is captivating, and kind of grim. It’s a story that tackles something taboo, but important. A woman takes her brother, who’s addicted to heroin, on an all-night road trip in search of a detox center.
17. “Candy Jar”.

Candy Jar is a cute, quirky, teen movie about two highly intelligent, but shy, debate team partners that end up falling in love.
18. “Dumplin”.

If Jennifer Anniston is in it, sign me up.
The story is about a plus-size daughter of a former “Miss Teen” beauty queen, that signs up for the pageant to stand up against body-shamers.
19. “The Kissing Booth”.

Here’s another new girls-night teen classic, about a girl who signs up for a kissing booth and ends up face to face with her longtime crush.
