Jamie Lee Curtis and her husband Christopher Guest have been married for 36 years. How amazing is that?! That’s like 3 lifetimes by Hollywood’s standards!
What I love about this couple is how they don’t shove their relationship in everyone’s faces! I don’t need a bunch of sappy posts declaring their love for each other, they just make it work! Kids today could learn a thing or two from classy couples like Jamie Lee and Christopher — less is always more when it comes to PDA.
When it comes to long-lasting couples in Hollywood, a few pairs come to mind — Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick, David and Victoria Beckham, Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick, and of course, Jamie Lee Curtis and Christopher Guest!
The pair tied the knot back in 1984 and have kept their romance alive and well for 36 YEARS.
Needless to say, this pair prove you can make a marriage work in Tinsel Town!
Now, the usually quite pair is opening up about their love life.
While speaking during JLGB Virtual’s event set to entertain young people amidst the pandemic, Jamie Lee and Christopher gave advice on overcoming obstacles in relationships.
“Don’t leave. That’s really it – two words. Because you will want to. If you’re telling me anybody who is married for a long time hasn’t thought ‘I hate them, I want out’, of course, they have! I believe if you stay on the bus long enough, the scenery will change,” Jamie Lee said of her long-term marriage.
“Depends what bus,” Christopher added.
“I think it’s crucial to put yourself in the path of love,” she added.
“Look, I reached out to his [Christopher’s] agent. I left my number. He didn’t call me by the way. And then we ran into each other at a restaurant and then he called me. But I put myself in the path of it, because I have believed in that my whole life.”
She then went on to share her philosophy on life:
“We will get through it. No-one says it’s not going to be difficult. ‘Life is pain, highness. Anyone who says something different is selling something’ is my favourite line from the Princess Bride and I believe that.”
She concluded by warning young people about the dangers of the “absolute poison” that is social media:
“Technology is allowing people to shift the reality of their lives and make a fake presentation, which is basically lying to make someone else feel bad,” she explained.
“It is designed to make you feel ‘less than’.”
I love the wisdom and love these two shared with viewers!
