Lingerie Companies' Inclusive Collections Empower People With Disabilities

Let's face a hard truth together: Clothing is incredibly inaccessible. Doing contortions to get your bra on is a given for many of us, but not for all of us.

Enter adaptive brands, which specialize in making clothing more accessible for those who are disabled or suffer from chronic pain and illness. The place to buy them? Intimately.co.

Intimately was founded by Emma, and inspired by her mom.

Emma's mom was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia when she was 12 years old. While attending Brown University, she decided to explore how to help women with chronic pain and disabilities get dressed.

From there, Intimately was born!

They're filling a gap regular brands didn't even consider.

"We could not easily find any underwear online that was both FUNCTIONAL for women with disabilities but also FASHIONABLE," the company says on their website.

So, here's how it works:

Intimately is a marketplace where small businesses can sell their adaptive and inclusive clothing for women.

They currently carry Dear Kate, Elba London, WingsIntimate, and SlickChicks.

It's a one-stop-shop that makes shopping easy.

I think we all know how difficult it is to hunt down and keep track of different brands who serve a specific purpose. Intimately takes all of the guesswork (and bookmarks) out of it!

Bras can be hard to put on for those with disabilities and chronic pain.

"For bras, those j-hooks can be especially hard for women with limited dexterity (or only use one hand) to fasten! Reaching around our backs to put on bras or tugging bralettes and sports bras over our heads can also be a challenge," they wrote on Instagram.

Underwear is difficult, too.

"Underwear and panties can be a nightmare too! Bending over and trying to tug up panties is often really hard, too."

That's why they turned to smaller brands who specialize in making clothing accessible.

Their bras have special clasps.

"The brands we sell on our site have reconstructed typical intimates to make it much easier to get dressed. The bras on our site from @elba have magnetic clasps."

Um, that sounds great.

And their underwear comes together at the sides!

"@slickchicks uses side opening panties that makes it easier to put on panties (no more bending over or sliding up panties one leg at a time!)."

Guys, clothing is so inaccessible, and these brands are trying to change it.

It's far past time for clothing to be for everyone.

The more mainstream we make adaptive clothing, the more options those who need it will have. I know I definitely would love to wear a magnetic clasp bra!

Let's cheer on these brands and bring them into the mainstream!
