Kirk Cameron's Protests Are Selfish And Are Putting His Fans In Danger

Growing Pains star Kirk Cameron has been hosting several large gatherings amidst a global pandemic and many can agree it has been frustrating to watch.

Information about the coronavirus pandemic is rapidly changing and Diply is committed to providing the most recent data as it becomes available. Some of the information in this story may have changed since publication, and we encourage readers to use online resources from CDC and WHO to stay up to date on the latest information surrounding COVID-19.

Kirk Cameron has been one of the more vocal celebrities to disobey California's stay-at-home orders in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Last month, he organized two large gatherings for fans to "protest" the restrictions and sing Christmas carols together without a mask in sight.

To top off his holiday season, the 50-year-old hosted a New Year's Eve mass gathering to "pray" for the world.

In response to the criticism he has received, Kirk has brushed off the advice of health professionals and frontline workers.

While speaking with Fox News, the actor defended himself saying, "I’m looking around in my community and I’m seeing the devastation and suffering of people whose businesses have been bankrupted, people dealing with anxiety, depression, suicide is spiking, the abused being quarantined with their abusers and I can’t just ignore that."

"I love my neighbors and so I want to give them hope," he said, before confirming he plans on continuing these gatherings into 2021.

"People are just clamoring to come and be a part of them," he claimed. "This is the land of the free and home of the brave and there are thousands and thousands of people in our community who would rather not suffer in isolation and come out to sing and express their gratitude."

"Because we believe there is immunity in community but there is desolation in isolation and I want to give people hope."

While it's understandable to want to help those in need in our communities during this incredibly difficult time, it is irresponsible to potentially expose hundreds of people to COVID-19. With no proper safety measures in place, these gatherings can quickly turn into super spreader events.

It's hard not to notice that many of the attendee's at these events are senior citizens. As we know, the elderly are one of the most at-risk groups for COVID-19.

It's anxiety-inducing to watch hundreds of people gather and sing together without practicing social distancing or wearing masks.

With over 350,000 COVID-19 deaths in the U.S. and counting, I hope Kirk decides to stop these events until it is safe to do so again.
