Dawn spoke fondly of the experience and of the character throughout her life, writing, "the core of Mary Ann is really me. I mean, I built her from scratch If you play a character long enough on stage or screen, I think your true self shows through."
A GoFundMe page was created in her honor that raised her almost $200k to help her pay back the bills.
Dawn told Fox News at the time that she was "amazed at the kindness and affection I have received."
TMZ reported that Dawn's manager had filed legal documents claiming Dawn was being harassed by a fan attempting to take advantage of her condition.
