'Gilligan's Island' Star Dawn Wells Dies Age 82

Dawn Wells, an actress best known for her role as the iconic Mary Ann on Gilligan's Island, passed away from complications due to COVID-19 on December 30th, Variety confirms.

Dawn Wells was best known for her portrayal of the sweet and idealistic Mary Ann on *Gilligan's Island.*

Dawn spoke fondly of the experience and of the character throughout her life, writing, "the core of Mary Ann is really me. I mean, I built her from scratch If you play a character long enough on stage or screen, I think your true self shows through."

In 2018, Dawn had revealed that she had taken a fall and had been struggling to pay the ensuing medical expenses.

A GoFundMe page was created in her honor that raised her almost $200k to help her pay back the bills.

Dawn told Fox News at the time that she was "amazed at the kindness and affection I have received."

Earlier this year, TMZ reported that Dawn was suffering from dementia as well.

TMZ reported that Dawn's manager had filed legal documents claiming Dawn was being harassed by a fan attempting to take advantage of her condition.

Her publicist confirmed that Dawn had passed away on December 30th due to complications from COVID-19.
