Alicia Silverstone Reveals Son Bear, 9, Has 'Never' Taken Antibiotics Because Of His Plant-Based Diet

One of the downsides of being a parent is basically surrounding yourself with a germ factory at all times. Kids are notoriously easy to get sick, especially once they're school-age, and dealing with your kids facing various illnesses and infections seems to just be a part of parenting.

Unless, of course, you're Alicia Silverstone, who says her son Bear has only been sick twice thanks to his plant-based diet.

Alicia Silverstone is an actress best known for her work in the film *Clueless*.

She's also known for her work in The Crush and Batman & Robin, among other roles!

It might be safe to say that her favorite role is "mom," since she's never been shy about how she's raising her nine-year-old son, Bear, who's been on a plant-based diet his entire life.

Alicia has made it very clear that she's a free spirit when it comes to parenting Bear.

Bear had previously sported incredibly long hair, even despite getting made fun of for it. Alicia wasn't about to force Bear to change how he wanted to look based on her own desires!

"Mama and Papa aren’t going to stop him from being him," she wrote in an Instagram post.

"He’s beautiful and we love his hair! We would never impose any social ideas about what hair on a boy or girl should look like. We should all try to embrace our children and who they choose to be without any judgement!"

They also didn't stop him from cutting it when he decided that was what he wanted.

"I miss his hair!!!!! Was it his decision? Yes. Did I cry inside as I watched him get it cut? Maybe… but did I try to stop him?" Alicia wrote alongside the video, "Not for one second."

Alicia's free-spirit style of parenting has also extended to Bear eating a plant-based diet, which she claims has kept him extremely healthy!

“He’s such an example of health. This is a child who is plant-based,” Alicia explained in a new interview.

"To never have needed antibiotics in nine years and to never have needed any kind of medical intervention," Alicia said. "Most kids have so many ear infections, they’re taking medicine all the time.”

“I’m not saying I wouldn’t give it to him, I'm saying he doesn't need it," she clarified.

"This is a kid who’s been [sick] twice in his life. Twice. For, like, a few hours. He said, ‘Mommy, I don’t feel good. I’m going to lay down.’ In his whole life, twice," she revealed.

Lucky Bear (and also lucky mom)!

Alicia has spoken in the past about how she believes his plant-based diet affects Bear.

“I can tell you that from the get-go, I think of him as a brown rice baby because I ate brown rice when he was conceived, when he was in my belly and when he was on my boob, and now he eats brown rice,” she's said.

“The centering, grounding energy of that nourishment in his organs has left him such a calm boy."

"I don’t have to yell or scream or discipline. None of that is necessary. All I have to do is say, ‘Oh, Bear, no thank you,’ and he goes, ‘OK, mom.’ He’s got it.”

“I just want to share that with the world, so people can see that a plant-based baby is really healthy.”

It's clear that something is working for Bear's health, whether it's a plant-based diet or just really good luck!
