I love a good DIY project. Not only can you end up saving a lot of money, but you also have the pleasure of answering “Where did you buy that?” with “Oh, I made it myself.” So satisfying.
But not all DIYs are created equal, and sometimes there just doesn’t seem to be a point.
1. Take these beauty blender holders made with hot glue.
I understand not wanting to spend $10 on one from a store, but can I share a secret? That $10 “beauty blender holder” is just a $1 pen cup with a markup.
You could probably find one for less than the cost of the hot glue.
2. Custom doll clothes hangers! Guaranteed to traumatize your children!
The pink bows really do a great job of hiding where Barbie’s severed neck is glued to her abdomen. It totally screams “innocent child’s closet” and not “serial killer in training.”
3. Five points for recycling, but negative five points for being tacky.
There’s just no way that a toilet bowl can be a classy planter.
That said, five thousand points to user Cats_in_the_box for coining the name “Toilettrees” for them.
4. This person had to improvise after losing a flip-flop.
While I agree that anything is better than going barefoot on college floors, I feel like if you only have the budget for a single pair of shoes, maybe opt for something not so easily lost.
5. As a dinosaur lover, I approve…in theory.
But I disapprove in every other way imaginable.
At first, I thought the dinos replaced the heels entirely, which would lack structural integrity, but it looks like they were just slid on top. So, that’s something?
6. Is this even saving that much money?
Fences are expensive, but is buying 18 wooden doors that much cheaper? This has the whiff of a neighbor who wasn’t willing to play nice and split the cost of a new, proper fence.
7. Note to EVERYONE: no soft or plush things in the bathroom!
If you can pick it up and toss it in the washer, like a bathmat or towels, fine, but stop giving bacteria a place to get all comfy.
Also, the seat’s on crooked. GAH.
8. I didn’t realize sports-themed lawn mowers were a thing until now.
That said, they’re actually not asking too much for a properly cleaned and repaired mower. I could live with the Cardinals theme.
9. How is this so many steps?!
Setting aside that no one wants to drink out of a scalped doll’s head that smells of cheap plastic, in what world does it take 23 steps to make this?
10. A new showerhead would cost less than this.
Hear me out: this isn’t just a can taped to a shower pipe. There are extra bits of metal plumbing going into this!
Sure, it wouldn’t be a high-end showerhead, but anything would work better than this.
11. Well, these seem safe…
Those are Crocs with skateboard wheels attached to the bottom. Please, just no. These are an accident waiting to happen, and are really freaking ugly, too.
12. Or you could…not park your giant truck in the garage?
I mean, if you love your truck, then maybe buy a home with parking that fits it? Or install an awning if you’re worried about it getting rained on?
13. I guess this technically works…
I believe that if someone dropped this phone, the hot glue would probably cushion the impact and make breakage less likely.
But, I’d kind of rather risk it?
14. I hate everything about this.
It doesn’t work as a hamper because you can’t lift the whole thing to move it, and all your clothes are going to smell like rubber.
And the washer is right there ! Just toss the clothes inside if you’ve already carried it this far!
15. Ugh, I just can’t with this.
Let’s start with Step 1. Guys, don’t ask “the girlfriend” to use her pads to make stupid slippers. She’s already paid a premium for them.
Hot gluing bejeweled decorations to them doesn’t make them any classier.
