Ryan Reynolds Surprised A Young Fan Who Worried He Had No Friends To Celebrate His Birthday

I think everyone in the world should get one really amazing birthday. Not just a good one, I think most birthdays should be pretty good, unless you're a bad person or even just someone who annoys me a little too much. Everyone should get one birthday where the whole world seems to care about you and maybe you even get a shout-out from your favorite celebrity!

I'll take mine next year, how about you?

Being a kid is tough.

Now it's been a long time since I've been a kid (a long, long, loooong time) but I remember very clearly the worry and anxiety that I would feel when I was worried that nobody would come to my birthday parties.

And back then they didn't have a pandemic as an excuse!

9-year-old Damien Smith recently moved to Shuswap in British Colombia.

Damien, who's birthday was on November 24th, was reluctant to celebrate his birthday this year because he was worried that he wouldn't have any friends in his new home to celebrate with.

After his mom shared his story, which went viral, even Ryan Reynolds heard about it (the fact that Damien is a superfan of Deadpool probably helped).

By the way, it wasn't just Ryan who reached out.

After Damien's story went viral, people all over the world sent him birthday cards and messages, according to his mother, who said they've received over a thousand cards and over a hundred packages of presents.

Now that's what I call the best birthday ever!

Ryan sent Damien a very special message for his birthday.

“I relate to your story a lot because I also went to a new school when I was a kid, a couple of them actually. I remember how alienating that felt, and I remember how alone I felt and how unseen I felt," Ryan said in the video message.

Ryan went on to tell Damien that he definitely wasn't alone.

“As I become a borderline grown up, I would say that one of the things I’ve come to realize is that when you feel your suffering and when you feel bad about something, usually it’s because you feel like you’re the only one usually it’s because you feel like you’re totally alone," Ryan said.

“I guess the point is that you’re not alone," Ryan went on.

"And then the other point, which might be even more important, is happy birthday!"

You can watch the full video right here, but make sure you get your tissues ready — Damien's reaction at the end even warmed MY cold heart!

What a sweet moment and a birthday that Damien is sure to remember forever!

Now, there's a few months before *my* next birthday, so maybe I should start my own birthday project.

Sure, I'm not as cute as a 9-year-old, but I also sometimes worry about not having enough friends, and I sure could use a phone call from Ryan Reynolds to cheer me up!

Anyone willing to work with me on this one?

Anyone?!
