Mandy Moore's Pregnancy Announcement Accidentally Insulted Her Mother-In-Law

There's so much joy in pregnancy it's hard to keep track sometimes! Some of the earliest fun comes from the fact that you get to break the exciting news to so many people! You get the fun of telling your friends, telling your family, telling your partner, and if you're famous, you get to tell all your fans as well.

Mandy Moore, an actress and singer best known for *This Is Us*, got to experience all of that fun recently.

Mandy announced in September that she was pregnant, and the world was so excited for her, including us! In a new interview, however, Mandy revealed that breaking the news to her mother-in-law did not go exactly the way she expected.

When breaking the news to the public, of course, Mandy went with a simple approach.

Mandy shared this photograph with her husband since 2018, Taylor Goldsmith, which showed the pair in black and white with his hand lovingly placed on her belly.

So sweet!

Even sweeter was the caption.

"Baby Boy Goldsmith coming early 2021," Mandy captioned the adorable pics.

Obviously, fans of the actress were incredibly excited by this, and so were we!

Many fans connected it to her character in *This Is Us*.

Although we're not so sure Mandy's hoping for triplets like Rebecca had!

Of course, when it comes to telling your parents, an Instagram post is not the way to do it.

“My parents, we broke the news via Zoom, which was lovely but not the way you had sort of built up in your brain," Mandy said.

"But my in-laws live very close to us and it was my mother-in-law’s birthday and we decided, like, this is the perfect birthday gift for her. We were gonna give her a picture of the ultrasound," Mandy went on.

“So we gave her a gift and we were like, ‘Open your card at the end.’ The card just said, ‘Happy birthday, grandma!’"

The message was not received very well. Mandy explained that "she read the card and was like, ‘Oh, thanks.’ [She was] a little insulted, I think, that we were calling her grandma.”

Once she saw the ultrasound, though, she was “beside herself with excitement."

“I’ve never heard a human being make the sound that she made," Mandy joked.

"It was, like, a cry and a scream, an exasperation. I was very worried that she was going to have a heart attack. I’m like, ‘Kathy, you’ve got to breathe! It’s good news! It’s happy news!’"

We're glad it was just a misunderstanding — and we're making a very careful note not to ever refer to our mothers-in-law as grandma without explaining it first.

Mandy also discussed the moment on *The Kelly Clarkson Show*.

I couldn't stop laughing watching this — both Mandy and Kelly are so charming and funny! Luckily, the mistake was cleared up quickly, and there are no more insults going around the family table.
