Celebrities Open Up About Being Bullied When They Were In School

By looking at some celebs today, you might think that they breezed through school.

After all, they're gorgeous, charming, and talented. But sadly, that wasn't always the case. Like us regular folk, some celebs dealt with their fair share of haters.

Here are 10+ celebs who were bullied in school.

1. Lady Gaga

When she was in college, her haters created a Facebook group called "Stefani Germanotta, you'll never be famous" (Stefani is her real name).

Thankfully, she got the last laugh in the end, as those haters are eating their words

2. Jason Momoa

Looking at Momoa now, it's hard to believe that he was bullied, but it's true!

He recently told InStyle that being mixed race made him an easy target for bullies. When he later got into art and skateboarding, the torment didn't let up.

If anything, it got worse. “I got beat up a lot,” he admitted.

“Just for being slightly different—it was gnarly. I mean, I wore Birkenstocks in middle school, and it was like, ‘You are a freak!’”

3. Winona Ryder

This was even after she starred in Beetlejuice as a teen.

"I remember thinking, 'Ooh, it's, like, the number-one movie. This is going to make things great at school," she told Marie Claire U.K. Sadly, it only made things worse.

"They called me a witch," she said.

Well, with a successful career under her belt and the fact that she's best friends with Keanu Reeves (you need to see their adorable friendship for yourself), we say that she's doing okay.

4. Shawn Mendes

Uploading singing videos to Vine and YouTube may have gotten him discovered, but it also led to torment from his classmates.

"The day after, I was walking down the hall at school and guys started yelling out: ‘Sing for me, Shawn, sing for me!'" he shared on Instagram.

"In a way that made me feel like what I was doing was just stupid and wrong.”

"It’s not joke to me. To make someone feel bad about doing what they love... every single person deserves to do what makes them feel alive."

5. Megan Fox

The actress has always referred to herself as a loner.

"I've never been a social butterfly. I don't feel lonely or isolated. I have one really great friend and that's all I need," she told Cosmopolian in 2014.

Unfortunately, this made her an easy target for bullying.

One time, one of her female classmates made fun of her desire to be an actress by dressing up in a leather catsit and saying that she was her.

6. Zac Efron

You may be surprised to learn that the actor wasn't a jock in school like his High School Musicial character. He was a musical theatre geek!

This soon led to torment since he said that it wasn't "perceived as the coolest thing," to The Mail on Sunday.

7. Justin Timberlake

While you would think that being on The Mickey Mouse Cub would make him the coolest guy in school, it was the opposite.

“At school, I was constantly teased and called weird, different, and a couple of other words that I can’t say on TV," he once confessed on stage.

8. Eminem

Just read through any of his raps and you'll understand what the rapper went through in school.

“I was beat up in the bathrooms, in the hallways, shoved in the lockers,” he said on 60 Minutes, adding that a lot of this stemmed from being the new kid.

9. Priyanka Chopra Jonas

The actress was bullied so bad in high school that she moved from the U.S. to India because of it.

"There was this girl who was a major bully. I think she didn't like me because her boyfriend liked me, or some high school dynamic," Chopra shared to Glamour, adding that she made her life hell.

10. Blake Lively

Her long legs are one of her best features, but back when she was a kid, they were what kids teased.

"Kids used to make fun of me in elementary school by calling me Big Bird (because I was 'too tall' and had 'yellow' hair)," she shared on Instagram, along with this epic pic.

11. Joanna Gaines

The Fixer Upper host was bullied in elementary school for being mixed race (she's Korean and caucasian).

“Kids in kindergarten would make fun of me for being Asian and when you’re that age you don’t know really how to process that; the way you take that is, ‘Who I am isn’t good enough.’ ” she shared to Darling magazine.

12. Tom Holland

"I had my rough patches," Holland told People about the bullying he experienced at school. This stemmed from him being into dancing and theatre.

"But you couldn’t hit me hard enough to stop me from doing it."

13. Kate Winslet

The Titantic actress was bullied for many things, including her feet.

"I was chubby, always had big feet, the wrong shoes, bad hair," she told Bear Grylls on his show, Running Wild.

She got to eventually kiss Leonardo DiCaprio so we'd say she's not doing half bad.

14. Kylie Jenner

The reality star has been dealing with bullies ever since she was nine years old.

"I think that I've done a really great job at handling all of this. But there's bullies everywhere," she shared on Snapchat.

15. Henry Cavill

Since Henry was a self-professed "fat kid" growing up, this made him an easy target.

His bullies even called him "Fat Cavill". "Although I really was fat, it was cruel to call me like that," he once said in an interview.
