10+ Celebrities Who Had Unusual Wedding Dresses

When it comes to weddings, what a bride says goes.

They want pink daisies lining the aisles of the pew? Done. They want someone to watch over Aunt Susan to make sure she doesn't get too drunk? On it!

They also get the final say on what they wear, which may or may not include a white wedding dress...

Here are 10+ celeb brides who went the unconventional route with these unusual (but still gorgeous!) wedding dresses.

1. Gwen Stefani

Never one to be traditional, the No Doubt singer wore an ombré pink-and-white wedding dress for her 2002 wedding to Gavin Rossdale.

With her upcoming wedding to Blake Shelton, we can't wait to see what kind of dress she wears!

2. Kaley Cuoco

The star's marriage to Ryan Sweeting may not have lasted, but this iconic pink dress will live on forever.

She wore the pink tulle ball gown by Vera Wang to their New Year's Day wedding in 2014.

3. Avril Lavigne

Are you really surprised by the singer's black dress (shown here)? She's always had a flair for punk rock, after all.

Plus, it perfectly fits the gothic theme of her and Chad Kroeger's wedding — black roses and all.

4. Lily Allen

This is so adorable! This '60s-inspired Dior mini dress goes perfectly with the singer's retro aesthetic, which includes that veil.

By the way, in case you can't see who her groom is, that's David Harbour from Stranger Things.

5. Solange Knowles

Beyoncé isn't the only queen in the Knowles family.

Solange looked quite the part when she married Alan Ferguson in a caped Humberto Leon jumpsuit. The gold bracelets on her wrists gave her an angelic look.

6. Christine Quinn

Avril wasn't the only bride with a black dress. This Selling Sunset star turned to the dark side to match her gothic winter wonderland theme.

Her dress was custom-made by Galia Lahav and even featured a black veil.

She talked to *People* about why she chose to marry in black.

"I never conformed to the status quo or societal expectations,” she said. It's even something she's always wanted.

"I’ve always enjoyed being bold, different and trendsetting. I’ve always wanted to get married in a black wedding dress, and I’m so happy that my dream came true."

7. Kat Von D

At first glance, you might think that it's Maleficent getting married. But nope, just the beauty mogul!

She traded in a traditional white gown for a dramatic red one by designer Adolfo Sanchez. Instead of accessorizing with jewels, she opted for red antlers.

8. Emily Ratajkowski

The model could get married in a garbage bag and still look gorgeous. So, of course, she pulled off this surprisingly affordable Zara pantsuit (it cost under $200!).

Also, who needs flowers when you have a pug to hold?

9. Olivia Palermo

If anyone could pull off shorts at her own wedding, it's definitely this style icon and reality star.

When she married model Joannes Huebl, she wore a cashmere sweater, lace skirt, and white shorts. Everything surprisingly paired well together.

10. Amber Tamblyn

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants star has always marched to the beat of her own drum, so of course, her wedding was no different.

Instead of white, she wore a yellow dress and arrived to the ceremony barefoot.

11. Sophie Turner

Everything about the actress's initial nuptials to Joe Jonas was unconventional.

That's because the pair surprised everyone by getting hitched after the 2019 Billboard Music Awards. It took place in Las Vegas with an Elvis impersonator to officiate.

Diplo live-streamed it — causing quite the stir — so fans got to see all of the iconic details.

This included Sophie's white jumper for a dress and the pair exchanging Ring-Pops as rings.

Thankfully, they had their extravagant French wedding that summer.

12. Cynthia Nixon

The actress's nuptials to wife Christine Marinoni was not unlike her character's wedding in Sex and the City: non-traditional.

Nixon wore a pale green Carolina Herrera gown, which matched her wife's tie.

12. Shenae Grimes

The 90210 star was another celeb who got married in black.

For her spring wedding to Josh Beech in 2013, she wore the black halterneck gown from Vera Wang. This paired well with the red bouquet.

13. Isabeli Fontana

With a body like that, it's no wonder the Victoria's Secret model opted for a sheer wedding dress.

She had the dress custom-made by a designer she's walked for before: Agua de Coco.

It was embroidered with crystal beading and went over her white bandeau and high-waisted bottoms.

Since her wedding to Diego Ferrero was held on the ocean, we bet she went straight from the ceremony to a dip in the ocean right after.

We would have!

14. Kristen Bell

Getting married in a courthouse wasn't the only low-key thing about The Good Place star's wedding to Dax Shepard.

She also opted for a low-key wedding dress: a simple black top and pants with a statement necklace.

15. Kaley Cuoco, again

The Big Bang Theory alum sure goes out with a big bang with her wedding dresses.

For her wedding to Karl Cook, she wore this all-lace jumpsuit for her reception. It looks like the perfect outfit for dancing the night away!

16. Dita Von Teese.

When I look at this elegant purple gown, one word comes to mind: stunning. This classically flowing violet ballgown was perfectly suited to the eccentric taste of Dita Von Teese.

And while her marriage to shock-rocker Marilyn Manson was short-lived, this dress will forever be timeless.

17. Céline Dion.

For the most part, Céline's gown is indicative of the times. It's big, billowy, and beautifully ornate.

The only thing I take issue with is that giant tiara on her head. What the heck is that? It looks heavy, that's all I can say.

18. Cindy Crawford.

Cindy Crawford helped define the term supermodel. For the day of her nuptials, less was definitely more for Cindy.

Her dress looks more like a négligée than it does a wedding gown. But Cindy's one of the few people who would look good wearing a paper bag.

19. Natalia Vodianova.

Natalia chose to go a more traditional route when the time came for her to say "I do." This classic frock exudes an old-time elegance that you don't often see nowadays.

She looks practically regal and happy as can be.

20. Teyana Taylor.

Side note: I love Teyana Taylor. I think "You Gonna Love Me" was my most played song of 2018.

Matching leather jackets and red bandanas may seem unorthodox, but it's perfectly in keeping with Tey's unique style.

21. Alison Pill

Alison Pill looks like an angel from on high. Her bright yellow dress and tight blonde curls shine like the sun.

I'm not normally an advocate for brightly colored wedding dresses, but Alison is turning me into a believer.

22. Rita Wilson.

There's a lot going on with Rita's dress, I'm not going to lie. Just as was the case for Céline Dion's, Rita's dress is all '80s.

She's still stunning, don't get me wrong. But it is an undeniably bold dress by today's standards.

23. Julianne Moore.

Julianne chose to wear a simple sheer gown for her big day. The design isn't necessarily catching, but the color choice most certainly is.

I for one am a fan of Julianne in purple and I'd like to see more brides continue to challenge the norm of always wearing white.
