8+ Facts About Suzanne Somers Fans Didn't Know

Suzanne Somers has had quite the interesting career.

She started out as Chrissy Snow on Three's company, but soon transitioned out of that into becoming the spokesperson for the ThighMaster.

These days, many know her as the celeb defying age with her holistic methods. However you know her, you can get to know her more with these 10+ facts.

1. She had her big break on *Three's Company*.

The actress landed the role of Chrissy Snow on the ABC sitcom when she was 31.

"I'm so glad I did that show," Somers told ET in 1982. "It made me. It gave me everything. It was the chance that everyone hopes to get."

2. Sadly, she got fired from the show for asking for a pay raise.

During the fifth season, Somers asked for a raise to $150,000. This would have put her salary equal with her male co-stars, but ABC refused.

Instead, they offered her only $5,000 more.

This soon led to a negotiation war that ended with the actress being terminated in 1981.

“Life isn’t fair,” Somers told The Hollywood Reporter in 2015. “Getting fired for asking for a raise wasn’t fair, but I landed on my feet and I’ve done OK.”

3. She likes to get frisky... a lot.

Getting older hasn't stopped this couple's marital "bliss."

The Three’s Company star left nothing to the imagination when discussing all the details of her sex life with husband Alan Hamel to the Daily Mail.

“I’m kind of in that groove, like when you were younger and you’re in the mood all the time, and so is he because he’s on hormone replacements.”

These supplements have led to them having sex two times a day.

4. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001.

She was headlining in Las Vegas when she got the scary news.

“When you hear those three words, ‘You have cancer’ — wow — that’s coming face to face with your mortality,” Somers told Yahoo Lifestyle. “You never think that you’re not here forever.”

“I believe this happened to me because I was a sex symbol — whatever that is,” she joked.

That's because she was known on Three’s Company as the "Queen of the Jiggle,” which refers to her breasts.

When it came to treatment, Somers refused her doctor's recommendations to go the chemotherapy route.

She told her doctor: "I honestly believe I will die if I do what you tell me. The idea of flooding my body with chemical poison just doesn’t reckon with who I am.”

Somers believes that she recovered from cancer by using alternative methods, such as injecting herself with mistletoe extract, making gratitude lists, and prioritizing sleep.

5. She landed the role of Chrissy on *Three's Company* by accident.

And at the last minute, as Fred Silverman, ABC's programming chief, was desperately trying to find the right actress the day before filming.

After watching through the audition tapes, he stopped when he saw Suzanne.

No one could explain why they passed on her in the first place.

"We got her in that day and she was on the set tomorrow and she was terrific in that part," Silverman said.

"And that was an accident because she never should have gotten the part."

6. She takes *a lot* of vitamins to look young.

The actress is 73, but who could even tell??

"[I take] maybe 60 vitamins a day," Somers revealed to ET about how she stays so young. "You know, I'm in optimal health, so whatever it takes."

These supplements include hydrochloric acid and digested enzymes.

You will never, ever catch her taking prescription drugs.

"I don't take any drugs at all, nothing...I don't have a medicine cabinet," she said. "I don't say that I'm doing it the right way, but there are two ways to do this whole thing about health and aging. So I'm doing it that way."

7. She practices yoga every other day.

"I will do yoga till I die. I do it every other day," Somers told ET.

"My yoga teacher comes and we do it here...And I use the Thighmaster religiously. So much so I was noticing that I worn off the thingy."

8. She and her husband almost broke up.

Their nearly 50 years together hasn't entirely been bliss.

The couple considered breaking up after they moved in together in Santa Monica. They also experienced a lot of challenges during their first 10 years together.

"We were fighting... but we didn't know what we were fighting over," Somers told *ET*.

"We were fighting over control and power and all those things, and children's feelings, and the great news is that we worked it out."

9. She was on *Dancing with the Stars*.

She put her time as a Las Vegas entertainer to good use when she joined the show's 20th season.

She told The Hollywood Reporter that she was asked to appear on the show every year since its series premiere.

For her season, she was paired with professional dancer Tony Dovolani.

Sadly, the pair were eliminated on the fifth week of competition, coming in ninth place.

This came after a poorly-received performance on the show's Disney-themed night.

10. She made the ThighMaster famous.

After she was let go from Three's Company, Suzanne struggled to find her footing. Just when her career was tanking, she found home shopping.

It was there that she became the spokesperson for the fitness gadget.

She managed to turn it into one of the best-selling infomercial products ever, earning more than $100 million in sales.

With her help, she has sold millions of products on CVS and The Home Shopping Network.
