Valerie Bertinelli Shares Rare Photos With Late Ex-Husband Eddie Van Halen

The world was shocked and devastated on October 6 to learn of the passing of rock legend Eddie Van Halen, 65, after a long battle with cancer. Like many people reminiscing and celebrating his life, Eddie's ex-wife, Valerie Bertinelli, has shared a number of emotional photographs of her relationship with the rock star to her Instagram page.

There's no denying that Eddie Van Halen, songwriter and founding member of the band Van Halen, had a massive impact and influence on the music world.

The band, formed in 1972, were best known for their hit songs like "Jump," "Panama," "Running With The Devil," and "Hot For Teacher," that achieved massive success worldwide.

Cementing their iconic career, Van Halen was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2007.

The world was shocked and devastated by the news of Eddie Van Halen's passing.

Eddie died at the age of 65 from complications due to cancer.

Eddie's son, Wolfgang Van Halen, confirmed his father's passing on Twitter.

Wolfgang wrote, "He was the best father I could ever ask for. Every moment I've shared with him on and off stage was a gift."

"My heart is broken and I don't think I'll ever fully recover from this loss," the 29-year-old concluded.

The tributes to the music legend soon came pouring in on social media.

Queen guitarist and founding member Brian May tweeted, "This wonderful man was way too young to be taken. What a talent - what a legacy - probably the most original and dazzling rock guitarist in history."

Van Halen vocalist Sammy Hagar shared a picture of the two on his Twitter.

Gene Simmons of the band KISS tweeted,"My heart is broken. Eddie was not only a Guitar God, but a genuinely beautiful soul. Rest in peace, Eddie!" while bandmate Paul Stanley added, "Oh NO! Speechless. A trailblazer and someone who always gave everything to his music. A good soul."

Wolfgang's mother, actress, model, and Food Network TV host Valerie Bertinelli, was married to Eddie from 1981 until 2001.

Valerie broke her silence on Eddie's passing with an emotional post, writing, "40 years ago my life changed forever when I met you. You gave me the one true light in my life, our son Wolfgang."

She continued: "Through all your challenging treatments for lung cancer, you kept your gorgeous spirit and that impish grin."

"I’m so grateful Wolfie and I were able to hold you in your last moments. I will see you in our next life my love."

While both Valerie and Eddie remarried, it's clear their relationship evolved and changed with maturity and mutual respect for one another.

Now, Valerie is sharing rare photographs of herself and Eddie from when they were younger.

Valerie began by sharing this photograph of the two of them in a small hug, revealing in her caption that the photograph was taken the night that they met.

She also included photographs from later on in their relationship and marriage.

"Christmas, 1980," Valerie captioned this shot.

The photograph shows Valerie with her arms around Eddie and a Christmas tree visible in the background. This photograph was taken a year before their marriage.

She also included photographs with the couple's son, Wolfgang.

This carousel family pic is quintessential NYC in the '90s.

It's so sweet to see that the pair remained extremely close throughout the rest of Eddie's life and for the sake of their son, Wolfgang.

Our thoughts are with Eddie's loved ones, family, and friends at this difficult time. Rest in peace.
