Seal Gets Ice Fish Cake To Celebrate 31st Birthday And Couldn't Be Happier

Yulelogs the grey seal was recently treated to quite the birthday surprise when he was given his very own ice fish cake to celebrate turning 31.

In a recent Facebook post the Cornish Seal Sanctuary in Gweek, England, shared photos of Yulelogs enjoying the tasty treat, and also wrote a bit about the birthday boy's life before he joined his fellow flipper-footed friends at the facility.

Back in 1989, Yulelogs was rescued as a pup by a marine park in northern England, but when that park closed down, he was released back into the wild.

Sadly, after years in captivity, the poor seal had become too dependent on humans for survival and was unable to feed himself.

"Three months after his release, Yulelogs was rescued by the RSPCA after concerned members of the public reported that he was chasing people with buckets on the beach as he believed they contained fish," the Facebook post revealed.

A seal his size is supposed to weigh around 550 pounds — at the time of his rescue, Yulelogs weighed just 132 pounds.

As the post explained, "It was apparent he needed care so the RSPCA asked if the Sanctuary could provide him with a permanent home and the rest is history!"

Now this sweet boy is happier and healthier than ever. The Sanctuary said also Yulelogs is quite the "energetic and enthusiastic seal", even at the ripe old age of 31 (grey seals reportedly live to be 25-35).

And no where is that passion for life more apparent than in the photos of Yulelogs enjoying his very special birthday cake!

Just look at that smile! That's one super happy birthday boy!

“Yulelogs absolutely loved his birthday cake,” Georgina Shannon, the marketing and media coordinator for the sanctuary, told The Dodo. “It's a great form of enrichment for him also as it requires a bit of thinking on how to get the fish out of the cake!”

While Yulelogs' joy is quite evident from the pictures, Shannon said the birthday celebration also helped cheer up Sanctuary staff as well.

“It's been an incredibly tough few months at the sanctuary and for everyone due to COVID-19," she admitted. "So it was just really nice to have a moment of celebration.”
