Dwayne Johnson Publicly Endorses Joe Biden For President

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has publicly announced his endorsement of former Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Kamala Harris in the upcoming 2020 presidential election.

As CNN reported, the actor and WWE legend took to Instagram on Sunday to announce his backing of the Democratic ticket, which also marks the first time Johnson has ever publicly endorsed a candidate for the highest office.

Johnson shared a seven-minute video to his social media accounts in which he explained his support for Biden and Harris.

“I’ve got friends in all parties, but the one thing we can always agree on is the conversation and the dialogue, and where that conversation lands is always the most critical part,” he said in the clip.

"This is something that I've certainly not done in the past, so I'm gonna go big," he continued. "You guys know me, if I go, I go big."

The video included a remote conversation about political issues that Johnson recently had with both Biden and Harris which cemented his backing.

During that conversation, the star asked them how they intend to earn the respect of American people if they're elected.

"By doing what we say we're going to do," Biden answered. "By keeping our word. By leveling with the American people. By taking responsibility. When we fail, acknowledge it."

He also promised an administration that "is going to look like America."

Harris added that truth "sometimes can be really difficult to hear."

"[For] that reason, people sometimes don't speak it," she continued. "People are grieving the loss of life, the loss of jobs, the loss of certainty, the loss of normalcy. And to heal and get through this, we're going to have to be honest about what healing will require."

During their chat, Johnson offered praised to both Biden and Harris for their respective work in politics, even branding Harris a "certified badass."

As he said in the clip,

"You guys are both experienced to lead. You’ve done great things. Joe, you’ve had such an incredible career, and you’ve led with such great compassion, heart, drive and soul. Kamala, you have been a district attorney, a state attorney, a U.S. senator. You are smart and tough. I have seen you in those hearings."

Upon announcing his endorsement, Johnson said he feels Biden and Harris are "the best choice to lead our country."

He also admitted that he's voted for both parties in the past, and said that the 2020 U.S. election is "arguably the most critical election our country has seen in decades."

Johnson joins the growing list of other celebrities who have endorsed Biden and Harris, including Barbra Streisand, John Legend, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Cardi B.

Back in 2017, Johnson's name was floated as a potential candidate for the 2020 election. At the time, he told USA Today that "politics is not my business," but explained why he would, if ever, consider running for office:

"To serve the people, and create a better environment for them."
