1. Kristen said that there were “no sparks” when she first met Dax.
“This guy can ta-alk,” she recalled to Sunday TODAY with Willie Geist.
“And then I didn’t know who he was. I’m like, ‘Is that one of the guys from Jackass or something?’ … And then we left. There were no sparks whatsoever.”
Thankfully, sparks flew two weeks later when they ran into each other at a hockey game.

Dax even sent her the most interesting first text.
It said: “Hi, my name is Dax. I violated your privacy and got your number from Shauna. How do you feel about that?”
2. Dax surprised Kristen with a sloth for her birthday.
Since Kristen is possibly the world’s biggest sloth fan, what followed was the most adorable “breakdown” you’ll ever see.
“Luckily, I had seen that level of crying, six or seven times, so I didn’t think I needed to call help or anything,” Dax later joked on Ellen .
3. They have some strict parenting rules.
You may not agree with them, but it works for this couple who have two kids, Lincoln, 7, and Delta, 5.
One rule the parents make their kids follow is only touching things with one finger.
They even lock their kids inside their bedrooms at night.
“My 3-year-old decided to stop sleeping about nine months ago. And every night, when we put her to bed, she turns the lights on, which annoys the 4-year-old, and she will move furniture, and she bangs on the door with different, hard toys,” she explained to Redbook .
4. They’re close couple friends with Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher.
This is basically the coolest foursome ever. If only we could be a fly-on-the-wall to their double dates!
They even once played a game of “Never Have I Ever” together on The Ellen DeGeneres Show .
5. They once forgot their wedding anniversary.

Kristen shared on social media back in 2019 that it was their friends and family who had to remind them that they had been married for five years.
In their defense, their reason for forgetting is actually really cute.
“In truth, neither of us remember which day. That’s because we have been living the celebration of our commitment every moment since,” she said.
“I find when you are living with gratitude each moment, the dates become irrelevant.”
6. They were forced to be apart at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since Dax had just traveled at the start of the pandemic, he isolated away from his family for two weeks.
This wasn’t easy, but the family found ways to be together… sort of.
“Today we were missing him so much, we did the only logical thing we knew how to do. Danced outside his window to a @bensplatt and @dearevanhansen serenade,” Kristen shared on Instagram.
Aww! When Dax was reunited with his family, it’s wasn’t entirely perfect.
The couple joked to Katie Couric that they were ” at each other’s throat ” in isolation.
7. They’re open to talking to their kids about sex.

This all started after their oldest child came in and asked where babies come from.
“Dax sat down and said, ‘Well, there’s a sperm and an ovum,’ and she said, ‘All right, I’m going to go back outside,” Kristen revealed on *The Talk*.

Bell explained that it was Dax’s use of clinical words that got their daughter immediately disinterested.

In addition to sloths, the couple has a huge soft spot for doggos.
There’s Barbara, who has her own Instagram page, and Lola, who has been with the actress for years.
Kristen even once rescued a dog named Frank after getting into a heated fight with Dax.
“I didn’t get an apology, but I got a dog! This is so much better than an apology,” she revealed on the Life is Short With Justin Long podcast.

They split since Dax was dating other people.
Thankfully, he came to his senses a few days later. “But I still always remind him of when he broke up with me,” Kristen told PopSugar .
10. They waited to get married for the sweetest reason.
As strong advocates of the LGBTQ community, they decided to postpone getting married until same-sex marriage was legal in California!
“What are we gonna do? Have a party and be like, ‘Look at us celebrating this thing you can’t do?” Kristen said about their decision to wait.
“That’s [expletive] putrid,” she said. “Like, 90 percent of our friends are gay!”
When they did finally get married in 2013, it was just months after the Supreme Court made same-sex marriage legal in California.
Their ceremony was low-key, as it took place at a Beverly Hills Courthouse.

Kristen shared every cringe-worthy detail on Ellen .
“She was coming into town and sends him a text like, ‘Be there by 11,’” Bell began. He followed this with a lot of eggplant emojis.
“When he did it, he went ‘Oh no! I made a huge mistake!’ And I was like ‘What?’ and he shows me the phone,” she continued.
Thankfully, Kristin’s mom didn’t know what the eggplant emoji meant.
Maybe she thought that he was going to make her eggplant parm? Regardless, PHEW .
