10+ 'Bridesmaids' Behind The Scenes Secrets Fans Didn't Know

Bridesmaids is considered one of the funniest films of all time. There are just so many scenes that make you double-down with laughter.

And it doesn't hurt that it features a female-centered cast. Yay, girl power!

While we eagerly await a sequel to happen sometime soon (ahem, get on that, guys), take a look at these 10+ behind the scenes secrets.

1. A lot of famous actresses auditioned to be in the film:

The mega-hit almost had an entirely different cast. Mindy Kaling auditioned for Lillian, Maya Rudolf's part and Busy Phillips auditioned for Megan.

Rose Byrne, who's in the film as Helen, even auditioned for Lillian!

2. Kristen Wiig hated that puke and diarrhea scene:

She revealed that the scene wasn't in the original script during an episode of The Hollywood Reporter's Awards Chatter podcast.

“It was strongly suggested for us to put that in there. I didn't want to see people [expletive] and puking.”

She was also upset since the scene was tailored more for male humor.

“When people say, ‘Oh, we're gonna give more female-centred movies a chance,’ you're not reading the fine print, which is, ‘Oh, but, they have to be like this.’ They want to see women acting like guys."

3. Maya Rudolf was pregnant during filming:

She and her longtime partner, writer/director Paul Thomas Anderson, were expecting their third child together!

To distract from her belly, you'll notice that her character often wore a belt around her stomach.

4. Paul Rudd was supposed to be in it:

Oh, what we would have given to see Kristen and Paul together!

He filmed a scene as Dave, one of Annie's love interests, but the scene got cut. You can watch it on the DVD's bonus features.

5. The Vegas scenes were also cut:

If you remember, the ladies were on their way to Sin City when Annie got way too drunk from booze and pills and ended up getting them kicked off the plane.

While it would have been hilarious to see what crazy hijinks the ladies got up to in Vegas, those scenes were cut.

This was so the film wouldn't be like the female version of The Hangover.

6. Melissa McCarthy's husband, Bel Falcone, is in the film:

It's become a trend for her hubbie to appear in whatever movie or TV show she's in.

In Bridesmaids, he played undercover Air Marshall John, who ended up becoming her love interest.

7. The movie kick-started two major careers:

The first is Rebel Wilson.

Before Bridesmiads, not a lot of people knew who the Australian actress and comedian was. But the movie ended up making her a star!

She played Brynn, Annie's invasive British roommate who has a bad habit of reading Annie's diary and trying on her clothes.

The second breakout star was Melissa McCarthy.

While she was known for her role on Gilmore Girls, Bridesmaids showed off her talent for comedy.

8. Rebel even auditioned for the role of Megan:

She revealed to PodcastOne that she was the second choice, but didn't get it since she was too young. And also, because Melissa was "bloody amazing."

Since Rebel nailed her audition, though, they wrote her in as Annie's roommate.

9. Melissa took style inspiration from Guy Fieri's for Megan's look:

Basically, her goal was to make the character look as terrible as possible.

"I was like, 'I look horrible in this. Give me a really unflattering belt,'" Megan revealed to Collider.

She continued: "And then, half-way through the filming I was like, 'Oh, god, this is going to be on a large screen with no make-up.'"

"I wanted her to look like Guy Fieri, from the Food Network. Right when I read it, I was like, 'I think she dresses just like him.' That was my go-to."

10. A lot of the cast personally knew each other:

SNL

Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph obviously knew each other from SNL (they're basically BFF's like Tina Fey and Amy Poehler).

Meanwhile, Maya knew Megan back from their improv days when they worked with the group, The Groundlings.

Kristen had also worked with John Hamm before on *SNL*.

Meanwhile, the film's director, Paul Feig, knew what John was capable of in the comedy world from working with the actor on Mad Man.

11. John Hamm went uncredited in the film:

This was actually his idea!

Since this was his first foray into comedy, he didn't want his name to confuse fans into thinking that the movie was serious and ruin its chances of success.

12. Hamm "embraced" those awkward sex scenes:

“I mean, sure, there’s an awkwardness about being in a weird flesh-colored thong, bouncing on top of an actress,” Hamm told Playboy.

But then he said that "all the awkwardness melts away and you think, All right, we’re doing this, so let’s have fun with it..."

13. Rebel Wilson and Matt Lucas were real-life roomies:

"We played roommates so well in Bridesmaids we thought we'd do it for real," Wilson said on Conan about them getting a place in West Hollywood.

Things were going too well, though, as they started getting complaints from neighbors.

One person dropped a letter in their mailbox, which Rebel read on the show.

"'Dear Neighbor, I am living somewhere behind you. I am glad you are enjoying your new pool and hot tub, but I am trying to sleep. I can hear everything you say — even the British accents."

Yikes!
