Lili Reinhart Responds To Backlash Over Saying She Felt 'Like A Prisoner' Filming 'Riverdale'

It's definitely not uncommon for celebrities to say things and immediately have a moment where they feel like (or that society feels like) they've put their foot in their mouth. Lili Reinhart is definitely having that moment after an interview quote that she felt was taken out of context has gone viral with people claiming she's "out of touch" with the real world.

Lili Reinhart is most famous for her work as Betty Cooper on *Riverdale*.

Lili has also starred in Hustlers and Chemical Hearts, and she also has an upcoming book of poetry titled Swimming Lessons.

In a recent interview, Lili discussed how filming Riverdale has changed due to the pandemic and current restrictions around travelling, as the show films in Vancouver, Canada.

“I genuinely feel like a prisoner, going back to work, because I cannot leave Canada,” Lili said.

Lili told Nylon, “That doesn’t feel good. You can’t go home for Thanksgiving, can’t visit your family. No one can come visit you unless they quarantine for two weeks."

Many fans, however, were not sympathetic to her complaint and her use of the word prisoner.

Fans claimed she was out of touch.

One fan tweeted, "Not Lili Reinhart comparing working in Canada and making more than a decent living to 'being a prisoner,'" and another added, "She doesn't know how to read a room."

It didn't take long for this backlash to reach Lili herself.

Lili has now responded in a series of tweets.

After noting that her words had been taken out of context, Lili explained "I’m not complaining about going back to work, I’m incredibly grateful to have a job," and that she was simply expressing her sadness of having to be away from her family for an extended period of time.

Lili then revealed she was annoyed by "having to speak up about this."

We're glad Lili stood up for herself!
