15+ Pics That Bridged The Gap Between The Past And The Present

In the graphic novel Watchmen, the original Silk Spectre said, "I'm 65 years old. Everyday the future looks a little bit darker. But the past, even the grimy parts of it, well, it just keeps on getting brighter all the time."

Those words hit a little too close to home in 2020 but there's a part of it that rings true no matter what time you're living in. Although we may not always see darkness in the future, we can find ourselves thinking back fondly on our past years even if we recall problems we had at the time.

But whether by conscious effort or just by noticing a coincidence, the folks in the pictures we're about to see have shown us ways in which the years behind us weren't so different to our lives now.

For Mother's Day, the man on the left recreated an image of his late father from decades ago.

As he wrote, his mom initially thought he looked goofy with that mustache but then broke down when she realized what he was doing.

Despite how many years have passed, it seems that things haven't changed that much for this pair of riders.

Not only are they still as ready to thunder down the road as always but it looks like they've still been able to stick to the same kind of bike they're comfortable with.

Considering that the young man on the right shares the same birthday as his father and grandfather, he felt the day was an opportunity to recreate one of grandpa's old photos.

Reddit | bankaiblood

He seems a little sleepier than his grandpa was when he gave off this smouldering look in the old photo but we can see a lot of similarities in their dress sense.

As we can see here, these two have decided to recreate Grant Wood's famous "American Gothic."

And considering that the biggest differences we can see are relevant to 2020, it seems reasonable to assume that this happened because quarantine got boring.

Although these two photos are 50 years apart, it's clear that this family's fondness for cowboys is timeless.

The only real difference seems to be that the uploader actually had a chance to sit atop a real animal by the time 1991 rolled around.

Over half a century ago, this man drove an armored vehicle for the British Army and was eventually able to find the same one in a museum.

Reddit | 0llienks

Not only can we make that connection thanks to the license number but the museum even has his original photo next to the truck.

It's amazing that it not only managed to survive but just happened to be selected for public display.

It's clear that the uploader enjoyed his childhood trip to California due to the way he's marked these photos up.

So what's the significance of that red dot in the first picture and the arrow in the second one? They mark the house he bought 45 years after visiting that beach.

It's common to lose touch with some of your old friends but it seems these ones were able to stay in contact for 30 years.

And not only that but they always managed to keep the same car they had back in 1989 looking very good. The paint job is obviously different but it's a credit to their care that it held together so well.

Fifty years after her mother made this dress for her prom, the uploader showed it off with her own special friend.

Her date may look (slightly) hairier than her mom's but he looks just as dapper! And that dress held up surprisingly well over the years.

Although we've seen people bridge gaps between some impressive spans of time so far, this image might be the winner in that department.

Although 50 years is certainly nothing to sneeze at, this man's recreation of his boyhood photo was taken 80 years after the fact.

Not only that but he managed to find an almost perfect match for what he wore back then.

40 years after their honeymoon, this couple recreated the bright and vibrant picture they took.

Reddit | Old_but_New

As we can see, the uploader's mom kept the outfit she wore at the time but had some trouble finding the original hat.

Oh, well!

We're not only seeing a graduation photo come full circle but also one family's devotion to saving lives.

Reddit | Munners1107

On the left, we see the uploader and his mom during her graduation from nursing school. Twenty-one years later, it's her turn to be there for his graduation as a paramedic.

Although the uploader seems to have a better idea of what's going on nowadays, there are a lot of similarities between these Father's Day photos.

And that's most notable in the way he matched his childhood stance 31 years prior. I guess finding a grown-up version of his boat wheel shirt proved a little too challenging, though.

It seems this woman felt the obligation to match how hard she partied as a toddler.

Not every night has to be a wild one but it's a hard pill to swallow if you find out you were at your coolest while you were still wearing pull-ups.

After 50 years of doing their own things, these frat brothers reunited to take this photo in front of their old house.

Reddit | gudnthick

You've likely noticed that the second picture has a smaller group than the original and that's sadly just what we can expect from life when that much time passes.

This woman did a great job matching the look her mom had back in the '80s.

It's also pretty handy that both women adopted this style during the exact right decades where it works. Hey, nostalgia can take a while.

When barber shops closed as measures against the COVID-19 pandemic set in, this man saw a sudden opportunity develop.

Reddit | K20J03K

As we can see, he found himself in a position where he could recreate his freshman photo with pretty much the same hairstyle.

Although this couple finds themselves on the same stoop 71 years later, that doesn't mean this photo came easily.

Reddit | kbmuss

That's because they had lost touch for decades after their original photo was taken only to find each other once again two years ago and recently marry.

When the uploader prepared to meet his newborn son, he also prepared to recreate this photo of his dad holding him.

Reddit | DasMech

And yes, that apparently means he grew this mustache in specifically for that occasion. He committed!

Since we can find no shortage of similarities between our current situation and past epidemics, this couple decided to express that odd familiarity in a photo.

Reddit | Flick1533

Apparently, the original photo was taken during a flu epidemic in 1937 and it seems they dealt with it in a similar way back then.
