Filming sex scenes during movies must be pretty uncomfortable or awkward, especially when you’re being given directions from someone you might not know very well and acting with someone you also might not know very well.
Kate Winslet and Saorise Ronan didn’t have to deal with this in their new film, because they took control of the scenes themselves.
Kate’s new movie, *Ammonite* will be opening in theaters in November.

The film stars Kate Winslet as real-life fossil hunter Marry Anning in the 1840s as she’s hired by a geologist to care for his grieving wife, as played by Saorise Ronan. The two women eventually fall in love.
When it comes to the sex scenes, Kate Winslet has revealed they came about in a unique way.
“Saoirse and I choreographed the scene ourselves,” Kate revealed.
“It’s definitely not like eating a sandwich. I just think Saoirse and I, we just felt really safe. Francis was naturally very nervous. And I just said to him, ‘Listen, let us work it out.’ And we did,” Kate said.
Kate explained that they planned the scenes out together in advance.

“‘‘We’ll start here. We’ll do this with the kissing, boobs, you go down there, then you do this, then you climb up here.’ I mean, we marked out the beats of the scene so that we were anchored in something that just supported the narrative,” Kate explained.
Kate then revealed it was the most comfortable she’d felt filming a sex scene.

“I felt the proudest I’ve ever felt doing a love scene on Ammonite. And I felt by far the least self-conscious,” Kate said.
I can’t wait to see this movie! What about you? Let us know in the comments.
