10+ Cool Things About 'Gilmore Girls' Star Alexis Bledel Fans Didn't Know

Handmaid's Tale, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Sin City, and Gilmore Girls star Alexis Bledel has led a very interesting life with an impressive acting career.

But there is so much about her that we didn't know — so much more than meets the eye.

Here are some cool facts to know about Alexis! Let us know which your favorite one is at the end of the article!

1. She was a film major in college.

Netflix

"I always thought that I would work behind the camera, because it's a more comfortable place for me to be, really," she told IGN.

"I went to college at NYU, and I was working there as a model, and I started auditioning for some pilots around that time."

2. Before becoming an actress, she wanted to be an architect.

"I went through a phase where I wanted to be an architect," she told Seventeen.

"Then I realized there was a lot of math involved in that so I ruled it out completely."

3. She is Latina.

Although it might not look like it at first glance (or second), Alexis is of Argentinean descent.

"Most people think I'm Irish," she said in 2005. "It's the only culture my mom knows from life."

"And my father as well, and they made the decision to raise their children within the context they had been raised in," she added.

Netflix

"So we speak Spanish in my parents' house, and my mom cooks amazing Mexican food."

4. English isn't her first language.

Warner Bros.

As surprising as it might have been to learn that Alexis' family is from Argentina, it may also come as a shock to learn that her first language is Spanish, not English.

But now it all makes sense.

5. Her first name isn't actually Alexis.

ABC

Like many other actors, actresses, and performers of all sorts, Alexis is not her legal first name but rather more of a stage name.

Her full name is actually Kimberly Alexis Bledel.

6. She's shy.

Warner Bros.

It might be assumed that anybody that acts or performs for a living is an extrovert, but for Alexis, that isn't the case!

"I always thought that I would work behind the camera because it's a more comfortable place for me to be, really," she once told IGN.

7. She is Blake Lively's eldest daughter's godmother.

Thanks to Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Blake and Alexis have remained close friends. Personally, I love when things like this happen.

So close, that Blake made her the godmother of her first born!

8. She and her husband Vincent Kartheiser had a secret wedding and a secret pregnancy.

A source told Us Weekly that their wedding "was a small and intimate family affair. They wanted something relaxed and beautiful. Ojai was the perfect place. His family flew out from the East Coast."

Not long after, the pair welcomed their first child in 2015. However, it wasn't revealed to the public until 2016!

9. She says that motherhood has changed how she thinks about a lot of things.

"More than anything, I just think about what roles I take on, and I make sure that it's really something I feel passionate about if I'm going to leave home and go work. I just want to love what I'm doing."

10. She was sick with the flu when she auditioned for *Gilmore Girls*.

"Luckily, we had videotaped one of her early auditions," casting director Jill Anthony said.

"We popped that in, and they saw her on camera and she just jumped off the screen, you know. Those blue eyes."

11. *Gilmore Girls* was her first-ever acting audition.

Sort of on a whim, Alexis decided to audition for a few pilots while she was in college, and Gilmore Girls happened to be one of them!

Despite it being her first-ever audition, and despite having the flu, she landed the role!

12. She dated two of her castmates from *Gilmore Girls*.

I'm sure this made for a rather awkward work dynamic!

She dated her on-screen boyfriend Milo Ventimiglia and even hinted that marriage might have been a possibility for them.

"I think everybody who has been dating for more than a couple years probably talks about it at some point. It's fun for us to talk about," she said.

"We did have a joke about casting all of Alexis' [real] boyfriends."

"She dated Jared and Milo, and she also dated a young New York actor named Chris Heuisler, who played a guest role," the casting director said.

Pretty cute if you ask me.

13. She loves home renovation projects.

While it may seem boring to some, personally, I love a good home renovation project.

"I tend to renovate properties when I'm not working," she told Nylon magazine back in 2015.

"It's fun for me, because it's creative and I can kind of control it."

YouTube | United Nations Foundation

"My job is very out of my control a lot of the time, because I don't want to get into, like, producing movies, although we are trying to make another Sisterhood movie."

14. When asked if she was satisfied with the ending of her character's story in *Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life* she responded:

"It certainly wasn't the ending I was expecting. I told Amy that I hoped Rory would end on a high note. After all her hard work, I wanted to see her succeed and be thriving."

"So it was a hard thing for me to digest."

Warner Bros

"I was hoping that we would see that she had lived an interesting life and had been fulfilled up until this point where her grandfather dies and [she] comes back home."

15. She had some difficulty saying goodbye to Rory and getting out of the character's head.

"Having the time between the end of the series and the beginning of these episodes really gave us a lot of perspective on what this show meant to people and what it means for us, creatively."

"It did take me awhile to get this character out of my system, as well."

Warner Bros

"I didn’t even know how to go about doing that ‘cause it was my first job and it went on for so long, which was incredibly fortunate."

16. She wants *Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants 3* to happen.

"It would be the best thing. Yeah, [I talk to the other girls]. I mean, we don’t get to see each other a lot because everyone has work and family and everything but when everybody’s in town we do, and we just pitched a third movie, and I hope it comes together. It’d be so great. Yeah, we did [pitch it for real]. I’d love it, I would love it."

In fact, her co-star and good friend Blake Lively is also fighting for it to happen!

"I think it could really happen," Lively said. "I think that people who love the movie want to see it. So, I mean, fans have gotten bigger movies made. [Lively's husband Ryan Reynolds'] Deadpool is all thanks to the fans. So I'm saying we'll do it."

17. She actually hates coffee.

Warner Bros

Does this change the whole show for you or what?

While it's true that the cups were always filled with something, for Bledel, it was never coffee. She drank soda, instead.

18. She was actually very impatient while doing her audition for *Gilmore Girls*.

Warner Bros

Because of the multiple callbacks, and Bledel not knowing how audtioning worked, she was growing very impatient. But it actually worked in her favor.

"I had a little attitude, and our boss really liked that a lot," Alexis recalled.

19. She would prefer if people watched *Gilmore Girls* and appreciated Rory's storylines more, and go beyond just who she was dating.

“There is so much more to her character. It’s great when people focus on her ambition and her accomplishments.” she said.

20. When it comes to her role on *Handmaid's tale*, she actually appreciates all the physical and mental demands that are required of her.

HBO

"I love the challenge of the role. The physical challenge of shooting in The Colonies just required a commitment to withstanding the elements for a week or so, alongside all the women who were in those scenes."

"There was some cold, and some mud, and we had a light snow tornado one day to walk through. It was challenging for a day of acting, but it’s nothing compared to what a handmaid would be forced to endure."

HBO

"So it was easy, keeping that in mind."

"It felt important to depict the physical and emotional effects of the place on the women, as fully and truthfully as possible, to do justice not only to the characters, but any women who suffer in real life."

HBO

"We had to put ourselves through a little bit to do that, but one week of that is nothing compared to what it would actually be. It also looks much worse than it was in actuality.
