In his late mother's book, Raising Kanye: Life Lessons from the Mother of a Hip-Hop Superstar, Donda West revealed that her job required her and Kanye to relocate to Nanjing in China in the 1980s.

2. His first song was called "Green Eggs and Ham":

Get this: he wrote it when he was just 12!

In her book, Donda wrote that she paid for the $25 per hour studio sessions to have it recorded. She even referred to her son's first song as "akin to Picasso."

3. His mom tragically passed away in 2007:

This was especially hard for Kayne, who was always so close to his mother.

She reportedly died due to complications from surgeries. She had undergone a breast reduction, liposuction, and a tummy-tuck.

4. He remembers the exact moment he knew he was about to become famous:

"I was living my dream making beats for Jay-Z and also working on my raps," he said during The Late Late Show With James Corden's first-ever "Airpool Karaoke."

"I remember when Virgin megastore was still around, I used to love to go to Virgin megastore to just look at all the CDs and listen and read the magazines."

He told himself to "breathe in this moment" since he knew it would be the last time he could walk around in public without being recognized.

5. He released his first Christian album in 2019:

Appropriately titled, "Jesus Is King," the album was a strong testament to the rapper's faith.

“God’s always had a plan for me and he wanted to use me," he said in an interview with James Corden.

"But I think he wanted me to suffer more and wanted people to see my suffering and see my pain and put stigmas on me and have me go through all the human experience," West said.

Songs on the album include "Follow God," "Jesus Is Lord," and "Closed on Sunday."

6. He banned his daughter, North, from wearing makeup and croptops:

While North loves to experiment with fashion, hair, and makeup, those days are over.

The reason why? He "feels differently" now that he's Christian.

"I don't think North should wear crop tops just because I had her wearing a slip dress when she was two years-old," Kanye said in an interview with Zane Lowe for Beats 1.

"I think and feel differently now, now that I'm Christian, now that I'm founder of a three billion dollar organization and married for five years."

7. He has his own church:

Every Sunday since January 2019, the rapper has hosted a Sunday Service, which focuses heavily on music.

The location for this changes weekly, with past services being held at Kayne's house and in Los Angeles.

8. He was engaged to Alex Phifer:

Kayne and the fashion designer dated on-and-off between the years of 2002 and 2008. At one point, they were even engaged.

"It's always sad when things like this end, and we remain friends," Alexis told People after they called off their engagement.

"I wish him the best in his future and all of his endeavours. He's one of the most talented people I've ever met."

Since Kayne is known to turn pain into music, their breakup inspired songs on his "808s & Heartbreaks" album.

9. He met one of his stylists while he was out shopping:

The then-19-year-old named Cassius Clay was simply shopping at Barney’s when Kayne came up and complimented his style.

Weeks later, Clay was working for Kayne and even dropped out of college to do so.

But when the media attention got to be too much, the stylist quit.

“I was 19 years old, never asked to be put in the spotlight, and truthfully, you know, I’m not Kanye West. I’m not a public figure. I was just a sort of private, really young person trying to do a job," he said.

He also wanted to pursue his main passion, which is art.

10. He's now officially a billionaire:

Forbes announced this exciting news back in April. They wrote that it took a while for the rapper to submit documentation, proving that he was, in fact, mega-rich.

But, as it turns out, he even has a little over a billion.

11. He gave his daughter, North, Michael Jackson's old jacket:

It was the jacket that the late singer wore when he was with Elizabeth Taylor.

Kayne won it through an auction. While it was never disclosed how much he spent, one previous jacket from Michal went for $1.8 million!

12. He once owned several burger restaurants:

He tweeted that McDonald's was his favorite restaurant back in 2018, but he once owned the rights of 10 locations of Fatburger.

He even reportedly bought wife Kim Kardashian the rights to 10 Burger King restaurants in 2014.

13. He's running for President:

The rapper announced the news fittingly on July 4.

"We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States! #2020VISION," he wrote on Twitter.

Thing is, though, he hasn't submitted his paperwork to do so yet.
