Bill Nye Wants You To Wear A Mask: 'This Is Literally Life Or Death'

We got a blast from our childhood past this week when Bill Nye The Science Guy himself took to the video sharing platform TikTok to ask us to Consider The Following when it comes to wearing a mask during this pandemic.

Bill Nye shared a video to his TikTok page encouraging people to wear masks and explaining why.

"Why do people in the scientific community want you to wear a face mask when you are out in public?" Bill starts by asking, and says, "Masks prevent particles from my respiratory system from getting into your respiratory system... Blocking the movement of air is an old trick."

Bill then demonstrated the particular effectiveness of various ways of blocking air movement.

Showing himself attempting to blow out a candle wearing various face coverings, Bill demonstrated that while wearing a scarf, he could still blow out the candle. Wearing a homemade cloth mask, the flame flickered, but wasn't blown out. Wearing a medical mask and then an N95 Bill showed that the flame stayed steady.

Bill then explained the real reason masks are important.

"The reason we want you to wear a mask is to protect you, sure," Bill begins, and then the camera zooms in on his face as he adds, "but the main reason we want you to wear a mask to protect ME from YOU!"

"This is literally a matter of life or death," Bill says.
