Avril Lavigne Opens Up About Dealing With Coronavirus During Her Battle With Lyme Disease

As you probably already know, the Coronavirus pandemic has taken an especially difficult toll on the elderly, and people with pre-existing health conditions that could be more aggressively affected by the virus.

Among those people is a singer-songwriter, Avril Lavigne, who suffers from Lyme disease.

She recently revealed in an interview on Live with Kelly and Ryan, how she has been handling living in quarantine.

In case you didn't already know, Canadian singer, Avril Lavigne, opened up about her Lyme disease diagnosis back in 2015 on *Good Morning America*.

Understandably, she called it "the worst time" of her life.

We can't blame her.

For those of you that aren't familiar with the illness, Lyme disease is carried and spread by ticks.

Early symptoms include rash, fever, chills, fatigue, body aches, headache, neck stiffness, and swollen lymph nodes.

Unfortunately, it can get even more serious than that in some cases.

Later symptoms can become more severe, including neurological problems or complications, heart problems, liver inflammation, and eye inflammation.

It definitely doesn't sound like something to be taken lightly.

"I literally became bedridden," she said. "It was like, literally the worst time of my life."

"They didn't really know what was wrong with me," she continued, revealing that doctors initially dismissed her symptoms as being symptoms of depression, rather than Lyme disease.

"They would pull out their little computer and say, 'Uh, chronic fatigue syndrome,' or 'Why don't you just play some piano, Avril?' or, like, 'Are you depressed?'"

"This is what they do to a lot of people that have Lyme disease. They don't know what to tell you so they tell you you're crazy."

Interestingly, Avril isn't the only Canadian superstar with Lyme disease! Justin Bieber was diagnosed as well.

Back in January, he opened up about it via Instagram.

He explained that while everyone has been calling him out for looking like he's on "meth", he has actually been suffering from a serious illness.

"While a lot of people kept saying justin Bieber looks like [expletive], on meth etc. they failed to realize I've been recently diagnosed with Lyme disease," he wrote.

He admitted that the illness has caused him to be chronically under the weather, as well as having a negative effect on his complexion.

"Not only that but had a serious case of chronic mono which affected my, skin, brain function, energy, and overall health," he said.

He then revealed that he would be starting a YouTube docu-series about his life that would also raise awareness about the severity of his illness.

"These things will be explained further in a docu series I'm putting on YouTube shortly..," he continued. "You can learn all that I've been battling and OVERCOMING!!"

"It's been a rough couple years but getting the right treatment that will help treat this so far incurable disease".

But he confidently declared that he will be making his grand return to the music scene, feeling stronger and healthier.

"And I will be back and better than ever NO CAP," he concluded.

Anyway, I digress. In a recent episode of *Live with Kelly and Ryan*, Avril opened up about the negative effects of coronavirus during her simultaneous battle with Lyme disease.

She began by explaining that she took the precautions to avoid coronavirus very seriously.

“I took it pretty seriously at first, especially the first couple months,” she said, revealing that she had been passing the time by working on music from home.

“Thankfully, I have a recording studio in the house so I can write some new songs and work on music."

“Trying to have as much fun with cleaning, cooking lots, writing some songs," she added.

“At the very beginning of the pandemic, I took my song ‘Warrior’ and I re-recorded it and changed it to ‘We Are Warriors’ in honour of the front-line workers".

"And everyone just to encourage them, proceeds going to the fight of COVID-19.”

It was a very thoughtful idea to change the title of her song as a nod to front-line workers!

What a sweet idea Avril!
