Nickelodeon Donates $5 Million In Support Of Black Lives Matter Movement

It's amazing to see companies and corporations truly attempt to make a difference in difficult times.

Information about the ongoing protests in the U.S. and around the world is rapidly changing and Diply is committed to providing the most recent data as it becomes available. Some of the information in this story may have changed since publication, and we encourage readers to follow their local trusted news outlet(s) to stay up to date on the latest information surrounding these events.

Nickelodeon had previously made a statement and started a conversation when it came to Black Lives Matter.

The network went "off the air" for 8 minutes and 46 seconds, which is the same length of time that a police officer kneeled on George Floyd's neck. The words "I CAN'T BREATHE" were shown on the screen, and only the sound of breathing could be heard.

Now they are making another statement.

"Conversation is important, but ongoing and meaningful action is critical. We remain committed to doing more and to doing better," the company said in a tweet alongside a lengthy statement detailing what more they intended to do to show their support.

The company continued.

“We’re committed to amplifying the voices of Black communities, we condemn system racism, and we honour George Floyd and other victims of racial injustice,” the statement read. "To support these efforts, we're donating $5 Million" to numerous organizations.

These organizations include The Bail Project and Community Coalition.

They also include Equal Justice Initiative, NAACP Legal Defense Fund, National Bail Out, Amnesty International, and "other organizations working tirelessly to end systemic racism."

What an awesome move from Nickelodeon! We hope more companies follow their lead!
