But that all changed when he met the then-two-year-old retriever named Baxter. “I just fell in love with him,” he told People .
“I didn’t mean to, I just picked him up along the way.”
“I whispered to him, ‘Hey, let’s get the hell out of here.’ And he jumped up, like he spoke English fluently. He came with me, he jumped in the car, and we’ve been best buddies ever since.”

Suffice to say, shes’s obsessed with the 11-year-old rescue. “Finn has made me more present,” she told People in 2016.

The Vampire Diaries star’s life got a little brighter when she adopted Maverick, the Border collie/Australian shepherd mix in 2017.

Sadly, both have since passed, but he gave them a great life while he could. He even rescued Samson after seeing that the German Short-Haired Pointer was on a kill site.
