Colleen Ballinger Of 'Miranda Sings' Apologizes After Old 'Racist' Videos Resurface

YouTuber Colleen Ballinger might be a familiar face to you, but likely under a different name. The comedian runs a YouTube account called Miranda Sings focusing on her character Miranda that has amassed over ten million YouTube subscribers since her creation in 2008. However, Colleen has recently posted an out-of-character video apologizing for resurfaced content some are saying is racist.

A video was uploaded on YouTube titled "MirandaSings Is Racist" with an old video that had been deleted off Miranda's channel.

In the video, Colleen (as Miranda) and Colleen's sister appear in heavy makeup speaking in a Hispanic accent for the entirety of the video. The jokes draw on racial stereotypes about Latina women.

Colleen uploaded a video to her personal channel addressing this old content.

Colleen starts the video off by saying that the characters her and her sister were playing and the jokes they were making were “completely based on racial stereotypes.” She added that a couple years later, they "deleted it, not out of fear of being caught but out of fear that someone would watch it and be hurt by it."

“It is not funny, and it is completely hurtful. I am so ashamed and embarrassed that I ever thought this was okay.”

Colleen then addressed another video that had resurfaced of her mocking a woman next to her on an airplane for her weight.

“That is not the woman I am today,” Collen said. “I’m such a huge advocate for women… the fact that I talked negatively about someone who is overweight is absolutely disgusting to me.”

Colleen emphasized that she is incredibly sorry for the hurt caused by these old videos.

“To anyone and everyone who was hurt or offended by the statements I made when I was younger, I am so, so sorry. I hope you all can see that the person I am today is so far from the person I was a decade ago," she said. You can watch her video here.
