Canadian musician Bryan Adams, most well known for his hit "Summer of '69" has gotten into hot water on Twitter after many are viewing a rant that he went on about the coronavirus pandemic as racist.

Information about the coronavirus pandemic is rapidly changing and Diply is committed to providing the most recent data as it becomes available. The backlash started when Adams shared this message alongside a now-deleted video of him singing on his Instagram and on Twitter.

In the message, Adams blames the pandemic on "bat eating, wet market animal selling, virus making greedy" people and he then encourages people to go vegan. Immediately, people on Twitter began responding negatively to Bryan's sentiment, stating that his rant was "uninformed" and "racist."

Many people felt that his tweet was not only inaccurate, but irresponsible.

As one person stated, "His post targets a specific ethnic group. There are members of that group in Canada & his post could incite violence against them — it’s hate speech. They’re systemically marginalized, he’s part of the majority, so he has more power. Therefore his rant is racist."

Some called his post "disgusting."

"Jesus Christ," tweeted one fan, "@bryanadams just burnt his entire legacy to the ground with one post. I grew up listening to the guy, my mother and aunts were obsessed. Shame. A real damn shame.

However, not everybody felt that Adams' post was racist.

As one fan pointed out, "Animal welfare and conservationists pinpoint China, as the number 1 source of horrors like bear bile farms, shark fin soup, destruction of tigers, pangolins and other endangered species, boiling and roasting dogs alive. Are they also racist then?"
