Khan had been previously diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumor in 2018 and received extensive treatment in London.

Neuroendocrine tumors (NET) are a rare form of cancerous tumors that are often difficult to detect.
After treatment, Khan was able to make a good enough recovery to work on what would be his last film, *Angrezi Medium.*

Unfortunately, the release of *Angrezi Medium* was abruptly cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic in March.

On Tuesday, Khan was admitted into the intensive care unit of Mumbai’s Kokilaben hospital with a colon infection.

He died the following day.
Khan’s most notable performances internationally include 'Slumdog Millionaire,' 'Life of Pi,' 'The Lunchbox,' 'The Namesake,' 'Jurassic World,' 'The Amazing Spider-Man,' and 'Inferno.'

There is no denying he was a true master of his craft.
Many celebrities have taken to social media to remember their friend.
Priyanka Chopra remembered Khan as an inspiration to many.
Khan's *Supari* costar, Nandita Das, tweeted that she will always treasure the actor's warmth.
"Will rewatch his films to celebrate his life and work," she concluded.
Musician and fan, Riz Ahmed, called Khan "one of the greatest actors of our time."
"His work was consistently transcendent, he was a guiding light for so many of us."
There is no doubt Irrfan Khan will be remembered through his array of strong performances.
Fans have also taken to social media to express their condolences.

Khan is survived by his wife, Sutapa, and two sons, Babil and Ayan.
