Mom Disgusted After Washing Couch Cover For First Time In Seven Years

The nice thing about cleaning is that it makes things nice and clean. The bad thing about cleaning is that it reveals the horrors of unclean things. It's a bit of a catch-22, as one mom recently found out.

It's time for spring cleaning.

It can be hard to motivate yourself to do a thorough cleaning, but if the fresh, warm air of spring doesn't motivate you to pick up around the house, nothing will.

It's easy enough to sweep up or run the vacuum, but what about the stuff that gets neglected? Like, you're supposed to wash your sheets all the time and nobody really does.

What about couches?

They serve as loungers, pet beds and even dinner tables. Couches can easily get filthy, and it's just as easy to neglect cleaning them.

One mom's cleaning odyssey recently went viral.

She posted this image on the Facebook group Mums Who Clean. Her task was straightforward: remove the slip covers of the couch and give them a good thorough clean.

Yeccch.

Here's a soaking slip cover, marinating in grey-black water. I don't know what's happened to it to make its bathwater so gross looking, but it has me looking at my own couch a little differently.

It had been years.

These covers apparently hadn't been cleaned in seven years. Undaunted, she filled a tub with hot water and threw them in. What she saw was stomach-turning, to say the least.

Better than nothing.

The end results reveal a nice, clean couch. Hard to say what it'll look like after another seven years of non-cleaning, but I suppose they can cross that bridge when they get to it.

She was a little bit grossed out.

Discussing her cleaning odyssey, the mom wrote, "So after two strip washes (he hasn't washed it ever in seven years) and a giant bag of shredded foam, which is really, really messy, this is my results."
