Tom Hanks Says They're Using His Blood To Work On A 'Hankccine' For Coronavirus

As Mr. Rogers once famously said, during times of crises it's important to look for the helpers. Seeing and acknowledging those who are trying to help and improve the world is so important, and it's definitely fitting that one of those helpers is the man who played Mr. Rogers himself in A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood.

Information about the coronavirus pandemic is rapidly changing and Diply is committed to providing the most recent data as it becomes available. Some of the information in this story may have changed since publication, and we encourage readers to use online resources from CDC and WHO to stay up to date on the latest information surrounding COVID-19.

Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson shocked the world when they were two of the first celebrities to announce that they had contracted the coronavirus.

On Instagram, Tom revealed, "We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive."

Now, thankfully, Tom and Rita have recovered, and Tom spoke about his unique plan of action in a new interview.

"We are just fine, dandy. We had all of the flu-like symptoms. My wife, Rita, was a little worse off than me. She had a very high temperature. And we were isolated so that we would not give it to anyone else," Tom revealed on Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me.

“A lot of the question is, is what now? What do we do now? Is there something we can do?"

Leave it to Tom Hanks to recover from an illness that's causing a worldwide pandemic and immediately look for how he can help! "And, in fact, we just found out that we do carry the antibodies,” Tom continued.

"We have not only been approached, we have said, ‘Do you want our blood? Can we give plasma?'"

"We will be giving it now to the places that hope to work on what I would like to call the 'Hank-ccine,'" Tom joked, although, honestly, that sounds like a pretty good name to me!

The interviewer seems to agree with me.

"There could be no better ending to this international catastrophe than if the cure turns out to be the blood of Tom Hanks," host Peter Sagal responded.

Obviously, fans are excited about this news.

Not only is it exciting that they're working so hard on a cure for this disease, but if that cure could somehow come from Tom Hanks himself, that would be the cherry on top!
