'Parks And Rec' Returns With New Special Episode To Raise Money For Coronavirus Relief

Finally, some good news! I don't know about you, but reading nothing but headlines about things getting cancelled and pushed back and delayed was seriously making me worry for the state of television and movies, but this right here is fantastic news.

Information about the coronavirus pandemic is rapidly changing and Diply is committed to providing the most recent data as it becomes available. Some of the information in this story may have changed since publication, and we encourage readers to use online resources from CDC and WHO to stay up to date on the latest information surrounding COVID-19.

*Parks And Rec*'s series finale aired five years ago, which doesn't seem possible.

It definitely does not feel like half a decade has gone by since we've checked in on the good people of Pawnee and their parks and recreation department, but it's true.

A new episode was just announced that will show our beloved characters dealing with social distancing.

That's right — a reunion episode that isn't just the actors all reuniting, but the characters! Amy Poehler, Nick Offerman, Adam Scott, Rashida Jones, and more have all signed on to reprise their characters for the special.

"The story comes from the events of the day," a press release read.

" Pawnee’s most dedicated civil servant, Leslie Knope, is determined to stay connected to her friends in a time of social distancing," the release explained.

The special will be raising money towards Feeding America's COVID-19 Response Fund, and fans are encouraged to donate "in the spirit of Leslie Knope and do-gooders everywhere."

"In such uncertain times, we can’t think of anyone better than Leslie Knope to unite our country with her unbridled enthusiasm and compassion,” added NBC Entertainment Co-Presidents of Scripted Programming, Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta.

Executive producer of the show Michael Schur said. "I sent a hopeful email to the cast and they all got back to me within 45 minutes. Our old Parks and Rec team has put together one more 30-minute slice of (quarantined) Pawnee life and we hope everyone enjoys it. And donates!”

What an awesome idea for an amazing cause! I can't wait to see what my favorite fictional municipal government branch is up to.
