Bindi Irwin Opens Up About 'Whirlwind' Wedding: 'My Dad Would Be So Happy'

Steve Irwin would be incredibly proud of his children, who have carried on his legacy of animal rights activism and conservation efforts. He most definitely would be proud of his daughter, Bindi, who just last week got married to her longtime boyfriend, Chandler Powell, in a surprise ceremony at the Australia Zoo.

Bindi has revealed that her wedding plans were pretty drastically changed due to the current restrictions on large group gatherings.

“We had been planning for almost a year,” Bindi said, “but as soon as this all started happening, we had to look at different options to make sure everyone was safe."

"It was a tough decision but absolutely the right one," she said.

“We thought about postponing, because you want to share this day with everyone, but when it boiled down to it, we both just said, ‘Look, we desperately want to get married, and no matter what the future holds, at least we’ll be husband and wife.'"

"We can take on the world together."

The ceremony was attended by just three guests, which were Bindi's mother Terri Irwin, her brother Robert Irwin, and Steve's best friend Wes Mannion, although there were many animals in attendance. Bindi said that “Even if it wasn’t by-the-book perfect, it was our perfect."

Bindi noted that she was sure her dad would be proud of her.

“These last few days have been amazing reflecting on our whirlwind of a day and also looking forward to the future. My dad would be so happy.”

We're sure he is, Bindi! Congratulations to you and Chandler!
