Woman Surprises Quarantined Grandpa Through Window With News Of Her Engagement

The global COVID-19 pandemic is unlike anything in living memory. But amid the doom and gloom are some incredible stories — the kinds of stories that wouldn't happen outside of these unique circumstances. This one is sweet and a little bit sad.

Earth is cancelled, for now at least.

Billions of people on this planet had billions of plans — work plans, vacation plans, wedding plans, general hanging out plans — but after outbreaks of the coronavirus in multiple continents, these plans have been put on hold.

Carly Boyd just got engaged.

Carly, a North Carolina woman, was proposed to at the beach on a beautiful, sunny spring day. She said yes. Of course, all of this went down before the pandemic got scary.

She wanted to share the good news.

There's no doubt that she was texting all of her friends to tell them the good news. But when self-isolation became the order of the day, she had to get creative.

Carly can't visit her grandpa.

Because he, and most other people at his nursing home, is considered high-risk for getting (and dying from) the disease, his residence made the difficult decision to ban individual visits.

Carly found a way to share the good news.

In a Facebook post shared by the nursing home with Carly's permission, you can see a unique interaction. Carly shows up at her grandpa's window to show off her ring. Her grandpa is clearly excited.

It's touching.

It's sad that social distancing has, well, socially distanced so many of us from loved ones. But we still have our phones, email and even less conventional means of communication like this one.

Carly's moment was special.

Facebook commenters, no doubt weary from the nonstop negative news surrounding the pandemic, were quick to share their thoughts on Carly's moment with her grandpa.

Here's hoping they can be together soon.

We don't know how long this strange situation might last, but here's hoping we're able to emerge from it down the road to spend time with our loved ones.
