There's Finally A Children's Book That Promotes Body Positivity

Body positivity is a term that is growing more ubiquitous as the days, weeks, months, and years grow. It's more than just a term, however—it's a movement. It's a way of thinking about the body that steps outside of the confines of societal norms that work to police bodies for whatever reason.

And while this movement has primarily focused on adults, it's just as important for children. Encouraging and nurturing a healthy body image means they'll feel good about their bodies, which then reinforces their self-esteem.

That why body positive bloggers Katie Crenshaw and AdY Meschke created a children's book focused on body positivity.

Children's literature tends to focus on educational stories that have grown more diverse over the years, but there has been a gap in the realm of body image issues, and not necessarily talking about those issues, but simply representing diverse bodies living their normal every day lives and thriving.

The 33-page book is called "Her Body Can," and is filled with body positive rhymes that teach girls they are more than the aesthetic of their body.

Flip through the previews on Amazon and you'll find plenty of adorable illustrations bi Li Liu and simple, yet powerful, sentences that I'm sure we all wish had been read to us as children.

The book is more than just representing body positivity, however—the authors also made sure to be diverse in every sense.

Other characters in the book feature physical disabilities, skin tones, hairstyles, and even religions.

"The pictures in this book say loud and clear, 'Everyone is equal'," Ady told Glamour in an interview.

So far, the reception has already been incredible. It's already Amazon's #1 Bestseller, and it was only released yesterday!

While the book does focus on one gender, the authors are working on His Body Can—however, Her Body Can is absolutely a book made for everyone.

Find it on Amazon for $16.
