Netflix Removing Certain 'Originals' From Their Service

Alright, it's not as drastic as it sounds. They're not going to be taking off Bojack Horseman, or ruining the mystery of Stranger Things by, you know, never finishing it.

I tell you what, you just read the article and we'll get this all cleared up. Alright, champ? Do you think you can handle that?

So there are Netflix "Originals" (captial "O") and then there are Netflix "originals" (lower case "o")

BBC

The Originals are things like The Witcher and Stranger Things. Stuff ordered and greenlit by Netflix itself.

originals (note the lower case "o"), on the other hand, are stuff like Peaky Blinders and Bodyguard.

Shows that were made by the BBC that Netflix just promotes on their servers around the world.

And it seems that some of those very originals are being taken down from the service.

One of them is Happy Valley, a BBC produced TV show that is on Netflix.

Until March 16th.

We're also going to be losing River, another BBC produced show.

Why all these BBC shows are leaving Netflix is unknown, but what is known is that the BBC themselves have been making big moves in recent months.

For example they just made a deal with Discovery, who now has exclusive rights to stream "Planet Earth" on their own service.

Maybe the BBC is looking for better deals?

Or maybe they're trying to squeeze some cash out of Netflix.
