Billie Eilish Faces Backlash After Saying 'There's A Lot Of Lying' In Rap Music

Billie Eilish is probably still riding high off her incredible night at the 2020 Grammys, having swept the big four categories after being arguably the most successful artist of the past year. Twitter is coming to crash that high after comments from the singer about rap music have rubbed fans of the genre the wrong way.

In a recent interview, Billie was asked about the authenticity of her own music.

Billie has often been open about her music involving characters and fictional events. "Just because the story isn’t real doesn’t mean it can’t be important,” she said.

"There’s a difference between lying in a song and writing a story. There are tons of songs where people are just lying."

"There’s a lot of that in rap right now, from people that I know who rap. It’s like, ‘I got my AK-47, and I’m [expletive]’ . . .’ and I’m like, what? You don’t have a gun," Billie continued.

"That’s posturing, and that’s not what I’m doing.”

Billie is now facing backlash from fans of the rap genre who believe that Billie was oversimplifying and discrediting the entire genre.

Some likened her opinions to that of a boomer.

Some fans wondered what gave Billie, an 18 year old pop star, the authority to speak about the trends in a genre of music she's not involved in.

Some fans called into question how much of Billie's style was borrowed from rap culture.

What do you think? Was Billie right to give her opinion, or should she have not commented on a genre she's not involved in? Let us know in the comments!
