When your child goes to elementary school they not only develop physically, but that’s when their personality traits start to blossom. It’s important to teach them to communicate with others and learn to accept each other’s differences.
One elementary school in Indiana decided to create a fun art project to teach their kids to be true to themselves. And it’s such a wonderful lesson for kids to learn.
Sharon Elementary School in Newburgh, Indiana decided to have a school-wide art project to create a colorful stone-lined path outside of the school entrance.

Each rock was painted by one of the students.
The project was spearheaded by the school’s art teacher, Jessica Moyes, who applied for a grant from a local foundation.

The foundation funds unique projects in her school’s district.
Moyes was inspired by the book “Only One You” by Linda Kranz.

The inspirational children’s book is about Adri, a little fish embarking on a new life by himself.
Its main message says that “There’s only one you in this great big world. Make it a better place.”

The phrase definitely resonated with Moyes when thinking of this project.
The book teaches kids that each of us is unique and that we all have something to contribute to the world.

That’s something all kids need to learn when they’re young.
Moyes read the book and its inspirational message to her students.

Then she had each of them paint their own unique rock inspired by the fish in the book.
She had the kids use glossy acrylic craft paint so the rocks would stand the test of time.

With approximately 740 students, she had enough rocks for the whole path.
When the school shared the pictures of their final project on their art class’ Facebook page they were amazed that it received over 18,000 shares.

Clearly everyone loved it.
This is such a creative way to teach kids to accept themselves and to appreciate each other’s differences.
It will set them onto the right path for the future.
