Billy Porter Slams Critics After Wearing A Dress On 'Sesame Street': 'If You Don’t Like It, Don’t Watch It'

Billy Porter is a Tony and Emmy winning actor. He's a living legend and a style icon. He's also now the subject of contention on the Seasame Street Instagram page.

Billy Porter is known for defying fashion boundaries on-and-off the red carpet.

His lewks go down in couture and cultural history, like this amazing hat he wore to the Grammys this year.

Bily first made major headlines for his fashion at the 2019 Oscars in his custom made Christian Siriano velvet tuxedo gown.

It was so so iconic.

Billy Porter has said he uses his fashion as activism, breaking down barriers between traditionally masculine and feminine clothing.

Billy clarified to Vogue that he's not a drag queen, he's just a man in a dress.

"I want people to understand that you don't have to understand or even agree with other people's authenticity or truths, but we must all respect each other."

Billy's legacy makes him an *obvious* choice to appear on the beloved kid's show "Sesame Street."

Sesame Street is known for always keeping up with the trends and staying relevant for the kids of today.

On January 30th, the "Sesame Street" Instagram page posted a picture of Billy in his velvet tuxedo gown on set.

"@theebillyporter bringing those fierce vibes to Sesame Street for #Season51" they captioned the pic.

While many fans have been supportive, some parents feel it's not appropriate.

"Guess I’m not showing my kid 'Sesame Street' anymore," one Instagram user wrote.

"So sad to see this on Sesame Street, this is not what we grow up on, this is not about acceptance or love. This is trying to force someone’s lifestyle onto our children, this is confusing and dangerous," wrote another.

People expressed their "disappointment" in the children's show for letting Billy wear his custom couture on the show.

However Billy has a message for all those opposed to his appearance on the show: “If you don’t like it, don’t watch it."

He told Page Six: "Like, what about me singing with a penguin [on the show] has anything to do with what I’m doing in my bedroom? The really interesting thing for me is that that’s what it’s all about when it comes to LGBTQ people — the first thing everyone wants to talk about is how we having sex."

He concluded, “Stay out of my bedroom and you will be fine — that is none of your business.”

WHERE'S THE LIE?

Thankfully, it seems Billy's message of self love and acceptance is ringing louder than the hate.

It's a fabulous gown, and should be worn as much as possible!

Way to go, Billy!
