Gwyneth Paltrow Explains Why She Will 'Literally Never' Return To Acting

It's the end of an era.

Gwyneth Paltrow recently shared that she's semi-retiring from acting and the reason why might surprise you...

Gwyneth Paltrow has always been known to wear many hats.

She's a mother, wife, and the founder of the sometimes (read: always) strange lifestyle website, Goop.

She's also considered a veteran actor in Hollywood, having acted in many notable roles over the years.

This includes Iron Man, Country Strong, The Royal Tenenbaums, and even Glee.

She's even been accused of stealing a major role before...

It's reportedly the reason why she and former BFF Winona Ryder don't speak anymore.

Paltrow allegedly nabbed the lead role in Shakespeare in Love out from under Ryder after stumbling upon the script in Ryder's home.

Yep, in her many decades of acting, Paltrow has done it all!

But now, in a new interview, Gwyneth revealed what we've feared all along: she's "semi-retired" from acting.

The Goop founder made this shocking announcement in this month's issue of "Harper's Bazaar."

It all began when she was asked whether the "acting bug" would ever come back and Paltrow's response was brutally honest.

“Literally never—nev-er,” she said. “When I was acting I really burned myself out. When the flywheel kicked in, I was doing three to five movies a year."

"I really got to the point where even the little things, like sitting in the van going to set, getting your makeup touch-ups, and everything—I really don’t know that I can bear it."

She then explained the struggles she went through with the last major movie she starred in.

"The last movie I starred in, I was pregnant with my daughter. It was a movie called Proof, an adaptation of a play I did in London, and I was like, ‘I’ve had it. I can’t do this anymore.’"

She continued:

"I had morning sickness and I was dying, and I had these five-page monologues. So when I had her, I knew I was going to take a big chunk of time off. And I’ve never starred in anything again.”

While she hasn't starred in any films since "Proof," she has taken on some smaller roles, such as her time on the Netflix series, "The Politician."

She worked on the series with her producer husband, Brad Falchuk.

The couple, who got married in 2018, also worked together on Glee.

Another reason Gwyneth is done with acting is due to her having trouble watching herself on screen.

“I vom. I gag. I hate it," she said, adding that her two children, Apple, 15, and Moses, 13, have never seen any her films besides the Iron Man ones.

From now on, expect to see a lot more from Goop, as she's devoting most of her time there!

Gwyneth's not the only actress to retire in the past few years.

Her friend Cameron Diaz has also hung up her acting hat.

The last movie she appeared in was the 2014 remake of Annie.

It wasn't until this past summer, though, that Diaz finally opened up about her disappearance from the spotlight.

"I started [experiencing fame] when I was 22, so 25 years ago — that’s a long time. The way I look at it is that I’ve given more than half of my life to the public," she shared to InStyle.

"I feel it’s OK for me to take time for myself now to reorganize and choose how I want to come [back] into the world. If I decide to."

"I don’t miss performing. Right now I’m looking at the landscape of wellness and all that. But whatever I do, it has to be something I’m passionate about — something that just feels effortless," she said.

Besides, the former actress has her hands full these days as she recently gave birth to her first child!

Since she and husband Benji Madden live a very private life, the birth of their daughter happened secretly.

As for Gwyneth, she believes she's earned the right to kick back after years of working non-stop.

"I think I’ve reached the status in [the entertainment] world where no one’s going to [expletive] with me."
