You pick a song, movie, or TV show, and time an iconic moment in it to happen directly at midnight.
It's a time-honored pop culture tradition that Twitter popularized. I personally have done it with High School Musical, tbh.
Honestly, this might be one of the best ones. It's on theme, it's well-timed, and it's an unfortunate reminder that Friends is now no longer available on Netflix.
I know. I'm sorry for reminding you.
You know, in case you forgot, or haven't watched Friends recently (who am I kidding, you probably have).
The quote comes from Season 10, Episode 4: "The One With the Cake."
The one where Rachel gets a cake made for Emma's first birthday, but it kind of ends up looking more like...what's a delicate way to put this? Male genitalia? Let's go with that.
Everyone already had plans, including Chandler and Monica, who plan to leave the party to head to Vermont for the weekend.
Rachel says the party can't start before Emma wakes up from her nap.
Ross asks everyone to record a message for a future grown-up Emma at the party while she naps.
Man, Ross was the worst.
SO ANYWAY, Chandler decides to drag Emma to her future self.
Did Emma wake up from her nap? Did Chandler and Monica make it to Vermont? Did Rachel fix the crotch cake?
Well, the answer to some of those questions is: Yes.
We have our answer.
17 years after the original episode aired, actress Noelle Sheldon (who took turns playing Emma with her twin, Cali) posted her reply to Chandler's question on her Instagram.
"Just woke up from the best nap of all time, happy 2020!! (ft. my poorly done photoshop) Hope everyone has an excellent year full of family, friends, and laughter!!"
Okay, so she's adorable.
"Finally," she replied.
Cali and Noelle both post a quite a few throwback things from Friends on their Instagrams, including a visit to a Central Perk set re-creation.
Basically, they're adorable and must be protected at all costs.
Seriously, searching "Emma" and "nap" on Twitter will net you a ton of tweets that look exactly like this one.
If it's not people yelling, it's some very clever Emmas announcing they're done with their own naps.
Is the joke new? No. Is it original? No. Does it make me laugh every single time I see an Emma say the exact same thing? Yeah. I'm a simple woman.
She photoshopped Joey's infamous turkey head (that Monica later improved on with sunglasses and a hat) onto herself and her friends.
This Thanksgiving post > all other Thanksgiving posts. I have spoken.
Cali posted this shot of her, Courtney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, and Lisa Kudrow to her Instagram to honor Friends' 25th anniversary in 2019.
Everything on that set looks so small from that angle!
She captioned this one "Mom (pt 2)" which is so adorable I can hardly stand it.
Also, is it just me, or has Jennifer Aniston managed to somehow not age since the '00s?
Even though they're both actors now, neither of them are afraid to show off where they came from. Cali shared this shot with the caption "Flashbacks to '03" on Instagram.
Noelle and Cali played (both sets) of twins in Jordan Peele's hugely acclaimed Us. So if you hit the theaters last spring, you probably saw them.
My mind was blown when I found this out and not only because I couldn't believe little Emma would be old enough to play this kind of role.
And based on the reaction to Noelle's perfectly timed 2020 joke, it looks like I am definitely not alone in that!
Why don't we wrap this up with the collision of all things New Year's, Emma, and 2020: someone actually following through and watching the scene as the clock struck midnight.
Happy New Year, everyone!
