14+ Mysterious Celebrity Deaths That Still Remain Unsolved

There are a lot of celebrity deaths that really broke our hearts. Some of them were because they were icons, beloved by all, and sometimes it was because their life was cut way too short.

Sometimes it was both.

But these are the deaths that still have something strange surrounding them. And they will haunt us forever.

Elizabeth Short.

The death of actress, Elizabeth Short, AKA, the Black Dahlia, is one of the most infamous cold cases in Hollywood history.

Her body was found, mutilated, drained of blood, and posed in an empty Los Angeles lot in 1947. Over six decades later, this case remains unsolved.

Prince.

Prince's cause of death on April 21st, 2016, was an accidental drug overdose. However, because Prince was never much of a drug user. So, there continues to be speculation that the simple painkiller, Vicodin, he thought he was taking, was laced with Fentanyl.

Thelma Todd.

Actress, Thelma Todd, died in December 1935, of carbon monoxide poisoning inside her car in her Los Angeles garage.

At the time, her death was ruled a suicide. However, when her body was discovered, polive found spots of blood in her car and her nose was broken, leading people to believe she could have been murdered.

Tupac Shakur.

Rapper, Tupak Shakur, was shot four times on September 7th, 1996, at the age of 25 in a drive-by shooting leaving a club in Las Vegas, headed to his car. He died six days later in a hospital.

To this day, no one has been charged. This murder remains unsolved.

Biggie Smalls.

Oddly, just six months after the murder of Tupak Shakur, Biggie was also murdered in a drive-by shooting, in Los Angeles, as he was leaving a party on March 9th, 1997. He died hours after being shot multiple times, at the age of 24.

His murder remains unsolved, decades later.

Natalie Wood.

Nathalie Wood died on November 29th, 1981, off the coast of Catalina Island in California. At the time, her death was ruled an "accidental drowning". But the case was re-opened more than 30 years later, and is now being called a "drowning and other undetermined factors."

While her husband, Robert Wagner, became a person of interest, no charges were ever filed against him or anybody else.

Jack Nance.

Eraserhead actor, Jack Nance, met with his friend, Catherine Case, on the afternoon of December 29th, 1997. She recalled that he had a bruised eye and that he told her he "told off some kid," earlier that day.

The following day he was found dead in his apartment. Authorities determined the cause of death to be blunt-force trauma — from the physical altercation he was involved in the day before.

The person he got into the fight with remains a mystery still to this day.

River Phoenix.

Actor, River Phoenix, died in front of The Viper Room in 1993, at the age of 23. His cause of death was determined as a drug overdose caused by cocaine and heroin. However, River's close friends insisted that he didn't do drugs.

His girlfriend at the time recalled someone giving him a Dixie cup of liquid that night, telling him to drink it, and he would feel “fabulous.” He died 45 minutes later.

Princess Diana.

Princess Diana died on the night of August 31st, 1997, after being involved in a car accident. While many consider her death to be a tragic accident, others have presented the alternative idea that the crash may have been intentionally orchestrated by someone that wanted her dead.

Chris Cornell.

The Soundgarden frontman was found dead in his hotel room on May 18th, 2017, at the age of 52. His death was ruled a suicide, as he was found with a rubber exercise band wrapped around his neck. There were also several medications found in his system, but they weren't determined to have had anything to do with his death.

Chris' wife, however, doesn't believe that he committed suicide, and she feels the medical examiner “botched" the investigation.

Bruce Lee.

Bruce Lee died at the age of 32, on July 20, 1973, in his sleep after a brain edema caused by a muscle relaxant he had been given. Many suspected that he was intentionally given an amount that would be fatal.

Others have even theorized that someone had it out for his family, after his son, Brandon Lee, was accidentally shot dead on the set of The Crow.

Dolores O'Riordan.

The lead singer of The Cranberries died unexpectedly in a hotel room where she was recording, on January 15th, 2018, at the age of 46.

Her death was initially ruled "unexplained" but months later revealed to be an accidental drowning after having too much to drink. However, fans have speculated that there may have been a third party involved.

Bobbi Kristina Brown.

Whitney Houston's daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, died on July 26th, 2015, at the age of 22. Over a year later, her autopsy revealed that her cause of death was multiple drug overdose and immersion in water.

However, the medical examiner couldn't say for certain whether her death was accidental or intentional. So, it was ruled "undetermined".

Marilyn Monroe.

Marilyn Monroe's death is officially known as a suicide. Her housekeeper discovered her body along with an empty bottle of sleeping pills on August 4th, 1962, at the age of 36.

However, to this day, conspiracy theories suggest that she was murdered to keep her from talking about her alleged affair with John F. Kennedy and his brother.

Brittany Murphy.

Brittany Murphy died suddenly of pneumonia at the age of 32. Shocked that she passed away from something that can be so easily treated, fans began to theorize that there may have been more to the story. Fingers began to point at her husband, who reportedly declined to have an autopsy performed on her.

Brittany's father launched his own investigation, discovering that she may have been poisoned by someone with criminal intent. Five months later, her husband died of the same thing, pneumonia and anemia.
