Scarlett Johansson Admits She 'Mishandled' Transgender Casting

Wow, it seems ScarJo is getting in trouble for a lot of stuff these days. First, it was her comments about Woody Allen and now it is for these comments!

At least she owned up to what she did wrong in the interview!

So Scarlett Johansson was once going to be in a movie called 'Rub and Tug'.

Where she would play a trans man named Dante 'Tex' Gill, and the movie would follow his life in massage parlors.

However, the online community did not like the fact the role wasn't played by a trans person.

So she replied:

“Tell them that they can be directed to Jeffrey Tambor, Jared Leto, and Felicity Huffman’s reps for comment.”

In case you didn't know, all three have recently gotten critical acclaim for playing trans folk.

Since then, she has left the project.

And has reflected on the way she handled the whole situation in an interview with Vanity Fair:

“In hindsight, I mishandled that situation. I was not sensitive, my initial reaction to it."

She also pleads ignorance to how the trans community felt about this kind of thing:

"I wasn’t totally aware of how the trans community felt about those three actors playing—and how they felt in general about cis actors playing—transgender people. I wasn’t aware of that conversation—I was uneducated."

"So I learned a lot through that process. I misjudged that…. It was a hard time. It was like a whirlwind. I felt terribly about it. To feel like you’re kind of tone-deaf to something is not a good feeling.”
