Bindi Irwin Cuts Ties With Australian Charity That Supported Slashing Immigration

Bindi Irwin, Steve Irwin's daughter, has come forward to announce that she has officially cut all ties with an Australian charity that she once fronted for openly being against immigration.

Steve Irwin's daughter, Bindi Irwin — who once proudly represented an Australian group called Sustainable Population Australia (SPA), has announced that she will no longer have ties to them.

While her reasoning is justified, it's contradictory to the opinions she's expressed in the past.

On Wednesday the Australia Zoo made a statement on Bindi's behalf.

They explained that SPA openly called for a substantial cut to domestic immigration and a reduction in population.

Due to Bindi's current political beliefs, she saw no ethical way to continue to support SPA.

SPA president and former state politician, Sandra Kanck, revealed that she discovered Bindi's withdrawal from Buzzfeed News on the same day the news was published.

When asked to comment, Sandra explained that it wasn't until later that day she received an official email stating Bindi's resignation.

"Effective immediately," the email read.

Sandra also explained that based on the last interaction she had with Bindi IRL, she had no reason to suspect she would be terminating her role within the charity.

"Earlier in the year, I asked her team for a new photo and they provided one for us," Sandra said.

"So there was no suggestion she was no longer involved."

She continued, explaining the last encounter she had with Bindi was at some point last year at an art exhibit.

"The last time I saw Bindi was casually at the Art Gallery of South Australia sometime last year," she said.

She added that based on the brief interaction they had, she had no reason to believe that Bindi was suddenly no longer on their team.

"We said hello, there was no suggestion she wasn't on side," Sandra went on.

She even alleged that Bindi agreed with SPA's views on population.

"She reiterated that population was the most vital issue."

Australia Zoo has not made a comment yet on when exactly Bindi's involvement with SPA formally ended, or if she even notified them that she was cutting ties.

While she's disappointed to find out Bindi will no longer be associating with SPA, she's ready to move forward.

"Oh well, we'll just have to find another youth ambassador," she said.

Prior to the news of Bindi's resignation breaking, SPA's website "Named Youth Ambassador For Sustainable Population Australia" under her achievements.

However, it has since been removed.

Bindi's comments regarding Australia's population go back to 2011, long before taking on the title of SPA's youth ambassador in 2013.

When she was 12, she spoke at the launch of Australian businessman, Dick Smith's book, Population Crisis.

And when she was 15, she advocated for population control and "seven-year" birth control implants for 11-year-old girls.

Although, to be fair, at the time Bindi was only 15. Her opinion on this matter could have easily changed since then.

Evidently, she has had a change of heart since she's decided to no longer back SPA or their values.

What suddenly triggered her resignation, or why she did it without notifying SPA directly is unclear.

But good for her for taking a stand!

What do you think of Bindi Irwin's abrupt withdrawal from Sustainable Population Australia after being an ambassador for them since 2013?
