Elizabeth Banks Says She's 'Still Judged' For Having Her Children Via Surrogacy

There's no one right way to have a family. Whatever works for you is going to be what's right for you, but that doesn't always stop people, especially online, from giving their unwanted and unneeded opinion.

Actress, director, screenwriter, and producer Elizabeth Banks knows that first hand.

Now, Elizabeth is known for her brutal honesty.

She's always going to tell it exactly like it is, like when her recent movie Charlie's Angels seriously underperformed at the box office and she fired off this tweet on the subject.

Or when she dispelled rumors about herself.

"That’s something I will happily say to everyone like I have not put anything in my face, I’ve never had a needle in my face," Elizabeth said on an episode of Armchair Expert. "I’m really uninterested in the psychology of starting to mess with my face."

It's no wonder she's open about everything else in her life too!

Elizabeth has two sons, Magnus and Felix, who were both born via surrogacy.

In a new interview with Net-a-Porter, Elizabeth opened up about the way she felt she was perceived as a mother due to using this method to have children.

Elizabeth revealed that she had been unable to carry her sons herself due to her "broken belly."

She explained that others have not all been understanding, saying, “I definitely think I’m still judged for what I’ve done and that people don’t understand my choices, but I don’t feel I owe anybody any explanation."

Elizabeth explained that while she's always been open with her fertility struggles, that hasn't been the general consensus in the world.

Elizabeth explained that until recently, "women’s reproductive issues were things you would whisper about in small circles," but now, "there’s #ShoutYourAbortion and IVF Facebook groups” for women and families to find solidarity about these issues.

"If my story helps people feel less alone on their journey, then I’m grateful for that.”

It's awesome to see a huge star like Elizabeth speaking out and sharing her story in a world that still judges people for how they live, love, and make their families!

Elizabeth isn't the only celebrity who's caught heat for how they chose to have their children.

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend have been open about how they used IVF, or in-vitro fertilization, to have their two children, Miles and Luna.

Someone even asked if they tried naturally first or were just avoiding the act.

Not only is that none of anyone's business but John and Chrissy's, it's extra insulting seeing as Chrissy had tried to conceive naturally for almost a decade.

Some people suggested she was being selfish for not adopting.

Once again, it is nobody's business but the people involved in the family how that family happens, but that didn't stop people from judging Elizabeth or Chrissy.

People were also mad that Chrissy said they had decided to use a female embryo for the process.

Some people assumed that choosing one gender meant they would be strictly enforcing gender roles, but the truth is every embryo has a sex, and every IVF situation involves a choice of which embryo to use.

Chrissy had to educate a lot of people.

It boggles the mind that people could be so judgmental about a family they know nothing about and aren't involved in!

At least the Legend-Teigen family and the Banks family are all happy, because that's what really matters.
