Brenda Song Claims She Was ‘Not Asian Enough’ To Audition For ‘Crazy Rich Asians’

Man, I had no idea that there was a threshold you had to cross. Why wasn't she Asian enough? Is it because she was born in California and not an Asian country?

Honestly, for the most part, I just feel bad for her. What a terrible thing to have said to you.

While she does have a good career going at the moment, Brenda Song wanted a bigger prize.

She wanted to be in Crazy Rich Asians, the biggest movie this year with "Asians" in the title.

However, it seems that even though she is noticeably Asian, she couldn't land a role in the movie...

Because she "wasn't Asian enough".

She did an interview with Teen Vogue recently, where she talked about her trying out for a role in the movie:

“A lot of people don’t know this, but I never got to read for ‘Crazy Rich Asians’, ever.”

Apparently, the producers weren't fans of Mrs. Song. At least for the role.

“Their reasoning behind that, what they said was that my image was basically not Asian enough, in not so many words.”

And this realization has shocked her. She doesn't even know where she fits anymore.

“I’ve auditioned for Caucasian roles my entire career, but this specific role, you’re not going to let me do it? You’re going to fault me for having worked my whole life?’”

“I was like, ‘Where do I fit?’”

Sorry to hear about that, Brenda Song. But there will be much more Asian led roles in the future.

Crazy Rich Asians will not be your last shot!
