5-Year-Old Brings Cocaine To School Saying It Makes Him 'Feel Like Spider-Man'

Although views on the ideal drug policy vary from person to person, one perspective should be close to universal. Namely that regardless of whether drugs should be used recreationally or not, they're definitely not intended for children.

Not only do many drugs have risks for addiction and potentially life-threatening effects that even adults can struggle with, but they've been found to have adverse effects on brain development in adolescents.

Although it's hard to tell whether or not the Massachusetts man featured in this story agrees that such drugs have no place around children, there's still a clear reason why he's responsible for the situation.

When a five-year-old boy attended school in Holyoke, Massachusetts, he brought something that went far beyond the average show-and-tell fare.

As NBC News reported, he brought a small plastic bag stamped with an image of Spider-Man.

Inside that bag, however, was an unknown quantity of cocaine.

It seemed the boy readily showed his teacher the illicit substance and said that he puts it in his mouth.

He also said that when he does this, it makes him "feel like Spider-Man."

The teacher present then alerted the principal of Lawrence Elementary School, who then contacted Holyoke police.

As a precaution, the boy was taken to a local hospital.

Fortunately, the drugs in question were sealed in the bag by the time they were confiscated and authorities currently don't see any reason to believe the boy ingested any.

Police also visited the boy's home and discovered how the boy was able to get his hands on the drug.

As WWLP reported, police uncovered 38 bags of cocaine and 70 bags of heroin in the residence while the child's father apparently slept.

They have since arrested the father, Benny Garcia, who already had an outstanding warrant for narcotics.

According to WWLP, he now faces multiple drug charges and is being held without bail until a "dangerousness hearing" takes place on Wednesday.

NBC News reported that the five-year-old and an infant who also lived in Garcia's home have been taken in by child services.
